Our Picks: PGA Championship

Tuesday, August 05, 2014

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our group of fantasy staffers from Rotoworld.com. We’ll have all of our selections from the GolfChannel.com, Yahoo! Fantasy Golf plus my new expanded feature on my weekly selection for One-and-Done players.

PGA Championship

Glass ($18,101,748; Rank: 1,803)

@MikeGlasscott

Sometimes you lose even when you win. I gained on my competitors in this column as Keegan Bradley did the business over Jim Furyk. But anyone who had McIlroy or Garcia in Group 1 sent me to the slaughter as I dropped 600 or so points.

So much for having three guys in the top 10!

Look where that got me!

What did we learn? Better pick the winner this week!

Group 1: Rory McIlroy

Group 2: Keegan Bradley

Group 3: Marc Leishman

Group 4: Robert Karlsson

ANALYSIS:  I was asked by my friend Laura Diakun on Fantasy Sports Today on Tuesday if it was crazy to think McIlroy could win three in a row on TOUR. HELL NO was my answer. He’s cut from a different cloth and he’s on complete tilt at the moment. I’ll back off when he crashes and burns, not in the middle of THIS! I’m throwing Bradley right back out as well as he is built for courses like Valhalla. The Aussie is on fire and to get him in Group 3 is excellent in a massive field. The long-hitting Swede is right back into my lineup after his T12 at The Open. I understand 10 of the 95 previous winners have been American but four of the last six (Harrington, Yang, Kaymer, McIlroy) haven’t been.

Rob Bolton ($16,148,953; Rank: 5,507)

@RobBoltonGolf

Group 1: Rory McIlroy

Group 2: Keegan Bradley

Group 3: Ryan Moore

Group 4: Scott Brown

ANALYSIS: Rob couldn’t relive his RBC magic where he had first AND second place in his lineup. Last week we matched Scott and Moore but he went Furyk in Group 2 so I’ve held him at bay. This week we’ll battle in Groups 3 and 4 only as we match the top two players.

Ryan O’ Sullivan ($17,481,180; Rank: 2,711)

@RyanGolfBlogger

Group 1: Rory McIlroy

Group 2: Keegan Bradley

Group 3: Marc Leishman

Group 4: Kevin Chappell

ANALYSIS: His Furyk-Simpson-Cabrera triad didn’t fire for him last week so this week he has mirrored my top three picks! Our battle will be between Karlsson and Kevin to see who K’s first.

Ned Brown ($18,972,037; Rank: 977)

@Esoxgolf

Group 1: Rory McIlroy

Group 2: Phil Mickelson

Group 3: Marc Leishman

Group 4: Robert Karlsson

ANALYSIS: Ned and I matched Scott and Moore last week so I made up some ground with Bradley in Group 2 as he also had Furyk. This week, it’s Bradley v Mickelson as we match on the other three picks. Ned is going to hop on and ride those 10 birdies and 62 last week from Firestone!
