FanDuel Focus: Byron Nelson

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

As the PGA TOUR preps for their final go-round at TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas, let's breakdown the field to see what golfers we should target on FanDuel.

Pre-Cut Stars
For this section, I'm going to look at long-term performance before the cut and compare it to performance after the cut.

I will point out a few examples that look notable to me. The idea is that some golfers are prone to fast starts, but start to fade as the week goes on. That could be due to added pressure or it could be due to typical weekend course setups with pin placements, firmer greens, and what not.

Patrick Reed: Ranks 7th in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 15th in POST-CUT performance.

Ryan Moore: Ranks 8th in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 19th in POST-CUT performance.

Seamus Power: Ranks 21st in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 137th in POST-CUT performance.

Michael Kim: Ranks 42nd in the field for PRE-CUT performance but just 88th in POST-CUT performance.

Michael Kim and Seamus Power are both golfers that are proving to be cut-makers early in their careers, but tend to fade over the weekend. In Reed's career he's held the lead/co-lead at the midpoint seven times, so he could be a sneaky R1-2 option this week.

Post-Cut Stars
On the flip side, here are some golfers that really shine on the weekend but don't always fire out of the gates.

Kyle Reifers: Ranks 36th in the field for POST-CUT performance but just 72nd in PRE-CUT performance.

Bud Cauley: Ranks 29h in the field for POST-CUT performance but just 54th in PRE-CUT performance.

Smylie Kaufman: Ranks 20th in the field for POST-CUT performance but just 97th in PRE-CUT performance.

Louis Oosthuizen: Ranks 6th in the field for POST-CUT performance but just 22nd in PRE-CUT performance.

We see some large differentials here. Basically, these golfers do not provide a steady stream of good play week-to-week but when they do have their A game, they don't let up over the weekend.

If you're looking for sneaky GPP options, all four of these qualify since their inconsistencies will have most gamers throwing them in the R1-2 slots this week.
