Expert Picks: Greenbrier

Tuesday, July 4, 2017

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our fantasy staffers at Rotoworld.com.

Here is a quick rundown of what sites and formats we will cover each week:

Page 1 will feature all of our selections for GolfChannel.com and Yahoo! Fantasy Golf.

Page 2 will go over One-and-Done as well as Daily Fantasy Golf picks.

Page 3 will take a look at the European Tour, with the Fantasy Race to Dubai.

Before we look ahead, Mo Yoshimoto takes a look at last week's action in his Quicken Loans Recap.

Now for the picks...

Last Week Rank: 1,841

David Lingmerth ($25,100)
Keegan Bradley ($25,000)
Graham DeLaet ($22,800)
Curtis Luck ($11,400)
Michael Putnam ($6,400)
Joaquin Niemann ($5,900)

ANALYSIS:  Some tough pricing this week so I'm taking a few flyers in Luck, Putnam, and Niemann. Luck and Niemann have both been ranked the No. 1 amateur in the world during the past year, so the pedigree is real. At the top I've sprinkled some ball-strikers (Bradley and DeLaet) with Lingmerth who has solid course history and great form.

Last Week Rank: 7,137

Sam Saunders ($10,900)
Curtis Luck ($11,400)
Ben Martin ($15,700)
David Hearn ($15,800)
Kevin Kisner ($33,300)
Scott Stallings ($12,000)

ANALYSIS:  Making a stand with Kisner at the top which forces O into taking some chances. Saunders is 0-for-3 at this event but playing much better in 2017. David Hearn will pick up the course history slack, as he found his way into a playoff here back in 2015.

Last Week: 171.0 points

Last Week Rank: 11,353

Patrick Reed ($33,300)

Keegan Bradley ($25,000)

Matt Jones ($14,600)

Johnson Wagner ($13,900)

Braden Thornberry ($6,700)

Matt Every ($5,800)

ANALYSIS: Like Ryan and Josh, Mo is also loading up a bit at the top and taking some chances with low-salary golfers. Every has shown a bit of form recently while Thornberry really impressed in his PGA TOUR debut. Both could easily pay off their price tag with a simple cut made.

*Make sure you check our Twitter accounts for any updates before the first tee ball flies on Thursday. Change in weather, tee times, etc. can always lead to last-minute changes and we will let you know through our social media channels.

This week's Strategy: Weather looks to be a toss up this week, with rain forecasted on Thursday and Friday. It may become clearer as Thursday draws nearer but for now I'm treating is as a non-factor.

Group A

Patrick Reed (7)Arrives in stellar form, rattling off top 20s left and right. With seven starts remaining, this is an easy choice.

Bill Haas (9): He rarely racks up birdies in bunches but he gets things done through consistency. I will likely keep Reed in the driver's seat unless Haas finds himself in contention or Reed falters.

=SUPER SUBS =

Gary Woodland, Kevin Streelman, James Hahn

Group B

Phil Mickelson (4)He is 0-for-3 at this event and playing his first event since the breakup with Bones. A big wildcard, but I think Lefty will come out determined to show that he still has winning potential with or without Bones by his side.

Bubba Watson (9): Just like Mickelson, Watson also has property at the Greenbrier Resort. In three appearances here, the big hitter has slowly improved with finishes of T30 then T16 and finally T13. If this trend continues, than a top 10 is very likely.

Webb Simpson (9): Has the course history on his side with three top 10s in six tries here at The Old White TPC.

Kevin Kisner (8): Played his way into a playoff the last time at the Greenbrier (2015). Has a WIN and T6 in his recent form window before settling for T58 at the U.S. Open in his latest start.

=SUPER SUBS=
Danny Lee, Charles Howell III, Sung Kang

Group C
Keegan Bradley (9): He's 4-for-4 at the Greenbrier and arrives in stellar ball-striking form. He gained 11.2 strokes tee-to-green at the Quicken Loans and 5.2 strokes tee-to-green at the Travelers. Both resulted in top 10s, so I am willing to ride that momentum.

Tony Finau (10): Posted a T13 in his 2015 Greenbrier debut, good for 40 Yahoo Points.

=SUPER SUBS=
David Lingmerth, Graham DeLaet, J.B. Holmes, Russell Henley
