Expert Picks: Canadian Open

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our fantasy staffers at Rotoworld.com.

Here is a quick rundown of what sites and formats we will cover each week:

Page 1 will feature all of our selections for GolfChannel.com and Yahoo! Fantasy Golf.

Page 2 will go over One-and-Done as well as Daily Fantasy Golf picks.

Page 3 will take a look at the European Tour, with the Fantasy Race to Dubai.

Before we look ahead, Mo Yoshimoto takes a look at last week's action in his Recap of The 146th Open.

Now for the picks...

Last Week: 410.5 points

Last Week Rank: 135

Matt Kuchar ($33,300)
David Lingmerth ($21,600)
Stewart Cink ($16,000)
Curtis Luck ($11,300)
Nick Watney ($11,200)
Wyndham Clark ($6,300)

ANALYSIS:  Had the Spieth-Kuchar combo last week with 5-of-6 through the cut. I took a stab at McNealy at the bottom which didn't pan out. Ended in 135th place! This week I'm going to take another stab at the bottom and use Kuchar as the anchor. The salary range doesn't go as low as last week (McNealy was less than $2K or else I would have loaded up on Kuchar-DJ at the top).

Last Week: 306 points

Last Week Rank: 4463

Matt Kuchar ($33,300)
Chez Reavie ($18,800)
Chad Campbell ($17,100)
Kelly Kraft ($16,400)
Brad Fritsch ($7,900)
Jared du Toit ($6,300)

ANALYSIS:  Come past success at Glen Abbey with Kuchar, Reavie, Campbell, and du Toit. Fritsch provides some nice salary savings while Kraft provides some scoring upside.

Last Week: 331.0 points

Last Week Rank: 2,594

Matt Kuchar ($33,300)

Jim Furyk ($23,400)

Kevin Tway ($15,600)

Ricky Barnes ($12,300)

Robby Shelton ($8,400)

Jared du Toit ($6,300)

ANALYSIS: Loading up on the young talent (Shelton, du Toit) to pair with some studs at the top. This lineup has all the makings for a potential winner.

*Make sure you check our Twitter accounts for any updates before the first tee ball flies on Thursday. Change in weather, tee times, etc. can always lead to last-minute changes and we will let you know through our social media channels.

This week's Strategy: This event is not stranger to weather delays. While the winds look pretty calm, there could still be a tee-time advantage if one end of the draw if a delay happens and one ends gets favorable scoring conditions as a result.

Group A

Dustin Johnson (3): Fired a 64 last week in R3 of The Open. That is a promising sign that his game is close to returning. Should feast on the par 5s this week.

Gary Woodland (8): His week at Royal Birkdale was much better than the final result would indicate. He was just off the pace before a few disastrous holes slowed him down. Like DJ, his game is close to returning, despite nothing juicy on the form line.

=SUPER SUBS =

James Hahn, Shane Lowry

Group B
Matt Kuchar (3): Dad life got in the way last week as I forgot to insert Kuchar off my bench! Doh! On the bright side I now have three more Kuchar starts remaining.

Jim Furyk (8): Slowly regaining some form and confidence. That should continue this week as he takes on Glen Abbey, site of four straight top 15s for Jimmy.

Bubba Watson (7): Has always hated links golf because he has  no sightlines to work his ball. He still was in contention last week at times. That impressed me, so I'm ready to jump back on the train.

Charley Hoffman (6): Insert statement from Bubba above. Hoffman has never really thrived on links layouts, but he found his way into the mix last week, finding a top 25 by week's end. He's in fine form, so let's keep riding the momentum.

=SUPER SUBS=
Chez Reavie, Danny Lee, Chad Campbell

Group C
Stewart Cink (10):His lat top 5 in a PGA TOUR event came way back in 2015...at Glen Abbey.

Tony Finau (9): Can overpower a golf course but he's proven this year he's not a one-trick pony. Developing a nice all-around game.

=SUPER SUBS=
Ollie Schniederjans, David Lingmerth, J.B. Holmes
