Dell Tech Championship Preview

Tuesday, August 29, 2017

The PGA TOUR stays in the Northeast this week, heading up to lovely Norton, Massachusetts, near Boston for the Dell Technologies Championship (formerly Deutsche Bank Championship) as the FedExCup Playoffs continue.

The field of 96 is set to take on TPC Boston, which has hosted the second leg of the Playoffs since the inaugural 2007 FedExCup Playoffs.

Unlike most weeks on TOUR, the tournament doesn't kick off until Friday with play scheduled to wrap up on Labor Day (Monday).

Course
Par 71 (36-35)
7,342 yards (+45 yards versus 2016)

Two of the past four winners of this event have gone on to win the FedExCup Championship. (Rory McIlroy 2016 & Henrik Stenson 2013)

This parkland-style course is chiseled out of the scenic New England landscape on a country side between Boston and Rhode Island. TPC Boston was originally designed in 2002 by Arnold Palmer Design Team but then renovated in 2007 by acclaimed course designer Gil Hanse.

Recently, Hanse came through again, renovating two holes since last year, the 12th and 13th. On the 12th hole, fescue was added atop a newly constructed ridge with the addition of two new fairway bunkers accompanied by a split fairway. On the 13th hole, Hanse added some contour to the fairway landing zone while moving the tee back 25 yards and finally adding five 'New England' style bunkers.

Weather
The weather forecast for the Boston, Massachusetts area for this week forecasts the temperature to be on the cooler side with temps dipping as low as 56 degrees in the morning and a high of 79 and sunny later in the day. The weekend however, looks to be even cooler in the mornings with temperatures approaching the high 40's. The sun will be expected to shine and bring the thermometer back up to 80 degrees both days.
