Welcome to Playing the Tips!

Each week this will be the one-stop resource to soak in all the picks from our fantasy staffers at

Yahoo and Golf Channel golf should both return in January. For now, we will look at One-and-Done as well as Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) on Page 1, then head overseas for the Fantasy Race to Dubai on Page 2.

Each week I will think out loud about my process in determining my One-and-Done selection. If you are new to the One-and-Done format, it is like an NFL survivor league. You pick one golfer per week, but you can't use them again all year.

After a few regrets to start the year, I finally hit pay dirt with Justin Rose last week. It was a good time to hit the winner, given the WGC payouts. Let's hope we can keep it rolling as we head to Vegas.

Let's start with course horses:

Webb Simpson (5-for-6 including three top 5s; ONE WIN)
Ryan Moore (Four top 15s including WIN since 2008)
Scott Piercy (7-for-8 including four top 15s since 2008)
Kevin Streelman (7-for-7 with four top 20s)
Russell Knox (4-for-4 with two top 15s)
Martin Laird (7-for-8 including a WIN and RUNNER-UP)
Tony Finau (T7-T16-T41)
Chad Campbell (8-for-9 including three top 10s since 2008)
Nick Watney (7-for-9 with five top 20s since 2008)
John Huh (T13-T30-T28-MC-T10)

After that, let's look at a (weighted) baseline performance metric since the start of 2014.

Patrick Cantlay

Bubba Watson
Tony Finau
Webb Simpson
Kevin Na
Charley Hoffman
Gary Woodland
Ryan Moore
Jimmy Walker
J.B. Holmes

Looking at all three lists there is a trio of names that appear on all of them: Webb Simpson, Ryan Moore, and Tony Finau

Webb Simpson
makes for a great play here as a past champ and good form. However, there are plenty of other stops on TOUR where he will make sense. Ryan Moore doesn't have stellar form, so that makes him a bit more contrarian this week. Although he does live in Vegas, so he has that in his favor. Lastly, we have Finau who arrives with the best form in the field. He's finished T11 or better in four of his last five starts. Finau has also played just three full seasons on TOUR so we won't have a lot of stops throughout the season where he'll qualify as a course horse.

Given all those factors, I'm going to go with hot hand, Tony Finau, and try to strike while the iron is hot.

Daily Fantasy Sports [DFS]

I will be giving out selections for one team for each DFS site, per week.

These lineups will be entered into a large-entry Guaranteed Prize Pool. That means we need to take a risk or two, in order to separate ourselves from the field.

I would also advise you to change a roster spot or two if you are trying to enter this lineup yourself. Duplicate entries are no fun.

FanDuel Picks:

Webb Simpson
He's found a putting stroke that works for him so it's hard to knock any facet of his game now. He's a past champ here and I figure he finds a way to climb back into the mix by week's end.

Tony Finau ($9,900):
If you read the One-and-Done section above, you know I like Finau to contend this week. With eight rosters spots on FanDuel, that allows us to load up on a few more studs. Finau is one of those studs I want, considering his scoring abilities.

Ryan Moore ($9,300):
The Las Vegas resident is a past champ here. He's also gained 20 strokes approaching-the-green over his last six starts. Just needs to find his flat stick.

Anirban Lahiri ($6,800):
Has rattled off top 10s in each of his past three starts on TOUR. He's found his form, so let's ride him while he stays hot.

Patrick Rodgers ($5,900):
Has a T13 on his Shriners resume, but also a pair of missed cut. I'd consider this a boom-or-bust option with lots of boom potential.

Aaron Wise ($4,700):  He's getting priced like a greybeard at the Masters, or a PGA TOUR Club Pro at the PGA Championship. However, Wise is an up-and-coming star and also showed that talent at TPC Summerlin. An easy plug-and-play at this price point.

Since we've loaded up at the top, you'll need to scavenge for value to round out this team. It's not too hard to find. However, if you want some more stability then pull the plug on one of those studs at the top and you'll have plenty of salary to work with.

DraftKings Picks:

Webb Simpson ($11,000): He's a past champ here and also arrives with a hot putter. He's gained strokes putting in 7 of his last 9 ShotLink-lasered events. If Simpson continues to have the flat stick worked out, he'll continue to contend and rack up birdies in bunches.

Byeong Hun An ($9,100):
Making his tournament debut here but it looks to be a snug course fit for him. An's only time leading on TOUR came at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, another desert course in the region. He's also fared very well in the Middle East when playing on the Euro Tour. It's safe to say he likes these desert-style courses.

Kevin Streelman ($8,400):
Has been surprisingly steady at TPC Summerlin, posting a 7-for-7 record here that includes a runner-up finish at the 2015 edition. He also met his wife in Vegas so that's good to have in his mind when he returns each year. Also has experience in the desert, residing in Scottsdale.

Scott Piercy ($7,400):
The Vegas native would love nothing more than to finally hoist the trophy here on his home turf. He's picked up three top 10s in his last six starts at the event.

Patrick Rodgers ($7,200):
He's joined the stable of Jeff Smith who sets up shop at TPC Summerlin. That means Rodgers has seen TPC Summerlin in the lead up which should help him in terms of knowing the course conditions leading up the event. One of the most talented youngsters on TOUR without a win, it's just a matter of finding some consistency.

Aaron Wise ($6,900):  The youngster is still a budding flower but this week is a great chance for him to blossom. The Oregon standout finished T10 here last year in his debut. Back when he earned Mackenzie Tour status he moved to Las Vegas and made this his home course. Hard to argue with that for sub-$7K.
