May Outfielder Rankings

Welcome to the May rankings. Players are ranked based on how much value I believe they'll provide in 5x5 leagues over the rest of the season. Along with the position rankings, you'll find a fully updated top 250 list.

Outfielders

Falling off: Manny Ramirez (No. 41), Lastings Milledge (No. 94), Scott Podsednik (No. 100), Felix Pie (No. 104), Austin Kearns (No. 110), Brandon Allen (No. 111), Fred Lewis (No. 112), Nolan Reimold (No. 113), Eric Hinske (No. 119)

  • Sizemore is definitely looking like a top-20 outfielder since coming off the disabled list, but I want to see him stay healthy for a while before moving him up that far. He does jump from No. 53 to No. 34 in the rankings.

  • Of the three Royals outfielders exceeding expectations, Gordon is the one I expect will provide lasting value in mixed leagues. He's not going to keep hitting for average like this, but he's the better bet than Francouer in both homers and steals.

  • Coghlan would be higher if not for concern about his shoulder. He's been fantastic, with four homers, 16 RBI, 17 runs scored and two steals in 23 games. However, there's no repairing the damage in his shoulder without surgery and time will tell just how effective cortisone shots will be in masking the pain.

  • I'd like to see the Phillies give Matthews a chance to overtake Ibanez in left field, but it probably won't happen. Odds are that Ibanez will regain his swing before too much longer, but as weak as he is defensively, he might be a worse player than Matthews or Brown even while putting up an 800 OPS.

  • The Carlos Lee ranking is pre-injury fallout. If he lands on the DL following Sunday's collision, he'd drop another 10 to 20 spots.
