Jack Wilson
(No. 45)
I couldn't drop Hanley any lower than third, even with his back injury threatening to put him on the disabled list. As disastrous as these last two months have been, he's just been too good for too long for me to put him below Andrus or Rollins.
I did weigh going lower on Jeter, but he rebounded to .274 with two homers, 10 RBI, 20 runs scored and five steals last month. Aybar and Desmond are running wild and Peralta has put on quite a showing in the power department, but none of those guys are close to sure things to match Jeter from an all-around standpoint. On the other hand, if steals were a priority, I'd certainly consider trading Jeter for Aybar.
As bad as Hanley has been, he still has an OPS more than 200 points higher than Brignac. The Rays shortstop has spent the first two months hitting like a pitcher, with a .173 average, one extra-base hit and four walks in 110 at-bats. I have faith in his bat, but the Rays should have sent him down a couple of weeks ago. He needs to go regain his swing in Triple-A.
Crawford is making a serious case for sticking as the Giants' shortstop after
Pablo Sandoval
comes back. I don't believe that Tejada will get released right away, but it's something the team has to be considering. Tejada is hitting just ..211/.237/.271 after 199 at-bats.
