June Third Baseman Rankings

Monday, June 06, 2011

Welcome to the June rankings. Players are ranked based on how much value I believe they'll provide in 5x5 leagues over the rest of the season. Along with the position rankings, you'll find a fully updated top 250 list.

Third basemen

Falling off: Andy LaRoche (No. 36), Miguel Cairo (No. 38)

  • I guess I look like something of a fool for not moving Bautista into the top spot a month ago. Obviously, it's no contest now, though I do like the way A-Rod is swinging as of late. Since Rodriguez is hitting again, he won't tumble in the top 250.

  • Lawrie debuts at No. 19. I had him listed at second base in the preseason rankings, but since he's not going to qualify there in all leagues after getting the call, I shifted him here now. It's no lock that he'll hit right away for the Blue Jays, but as little depth as there is at third base right now, I didn't hesitate to include him in the top 20. If he gets off to a quick start, he'd promptly move into the 10-15 range.

  • Betemit arguably should have been higher, but he might get traded to a team that will use him as more of a role player. The Royals are going to want to make room for Moustakas at some point.
