July Shortstop RankingsFriday, July 01, 2011
Up this week are the July rankings. Players are ranked based on how I believe they will perform in 5x5 leagues over the remainder of the season. Along with the position rankings, you'll find a fully updated top 250 list.

Jeter will come off the disabled list next week, but there's no room for him in the top 10 right now. This is the strongest top 12 at shortstop that I've seen in a long time, and unlike most years, when I have a couple of guys listed at shortstop that are actually playing elsewhere, everyone in the top 14 is an honest-to-goodness shortstop.Beyond the top 15, though, it gets awfully shaky in a hurry. The players ranked 18th-32nd are all pretty much interchangeable. Alcides Escobar is actually playing the best of any of them at the moment. It seems doubtful to me that the Dodgers will shift Furcal to second base this year. Gordon doesn't appear to be ready yet anyway, and they probably can't carry three veteran utilitymen in Uribe, Carroll and Aaron Miles. Sending Gordon back to the minors when Furcal returns next week is the obvious move.Hairston was set to come in at No. 40 before Wednesday's broken wrist knocked him off the list.
