August Second Baseman Rankings
Wednesday, August 03, 2011
Tweet
Up this week are the August rankings. Players are ranked based on how I believe they will perform in 5x5 leagues over the remainder of the season. Along with the position rankings, you'll find a fully updated top 250 list.

Second Baseman Rankings
Falling off:
Cord Phelps
(No. 34),
Freddy Sanchez
(No. 38),
Luke Hughes
(No. 40),
Jose Lopez
(No. 44),
Bill Hall
(No. 45)
I thought about bumping the scorching-hot Pedroia up to No. 2, but Utley did come through with five homers and six steals last month.
There are three Astros in the list following Keppinger's departure and
Chris Johnson
's demotion. Altuve should have second base all to himself, while Paredes and Downs could battle it out for time at third. Paredes was hitting .270/.300/.426 with 29 steals in Double-A, but it came with an 84/15 K/BB ratio in 385 at-bats. I expect that he'll prove overmatched, yet he could be a source of some cheap steals. As for Altuve, well, it's hard not to like what he's shown so far. Still, runs and RBI are going to be very difficult to come by in Houston's lineup.
Mike Aviles
doesn't get much of a bump here after getting traded out of Kansas City. He isn't going to get his wish to be an everyday player in Boston, and he might find himself back in the minors if
Jed Lowrie
can return this month as hoped.
