August Shortstop Rankings
Wednesday, August 03, 2011
Up this week are the August rankings. Players are ranked based on how I believe they will perform in 5x5 leagues over the remainder of the season. Along with the position rankings, you'll find a fully updated top 250 list.

Top 250 | SP | RP | OF | 1B | 2B | SS | 3B | C | DHShortstop RankingsFalling off: Stephen Drew (No. 8),
Reid Brignac (No. 35),
Paul Janish (No. 40),
Brandon Crawford (No. 43)
I consider scrambling the top three, only to leave it alone for the second month in a row. Hanley appears back as a big offensive threat after hitting .293 with five homers, 21 RBI and five steals last month. Tulo, though, was even better from a performance standpoint, hitting .352 with five homers, 20 RBI and two steals. Reyes, on the other hand, fell off, hitting .288 with just one homer, three RBI and two steals in the 15 games. A healthy Reyes should be better this month, so I kept him at No. 2. I did move Hanley up in the top 250.
I wasn't quite sure what to do with the Giants. Tejada actually came in at .333/.378/.524 last month, but it seems like the team has soured enough on his defense that he could play less than Cabrera or Fontenot going forward. Even though Cabrera is the worst hitter in the group, I have him ranked the highest at No. 35.
