DH Keeper Rankings

Thursday, August 18, 2011

This year's final set of Strike Zone player rankings focuses strictly on 2012 and beyond. I'm looking mostly at the next two years in these keeper rankings, though I am providing a little credit for 2014 and '15. As always, there are position rankings with notes and an overall top 250 list.

  • These are our 2012 designated hitters of the moment. Hideki Matsui and Johnny Damon both need four more outfield games in order to avoid being listed here. Butler is only halfway to 20-game eligibility at first base, and it seems doubtful he'll get there. Adam Dunn has already wrapped up first-base eligibility.

  • Butler vs. Ortiz was close. I'd give Ortiz the edge for 2012 if he's back with the Red Sox, but Butler should be the better bet after that. And if Ortiz leaves as a free agent, I probably wouldn't like him as much anywhere else.

  • RankPlayer NameTeam
    1 Billy Butler Royals

    3 Vladimir Guerrero Orioles
    4 Travis Hafner Indians
    5 Jim Thome Twins
    6 Jorge Posada Yankees
    7 Jack Cust Phillies
    8 Nick Johnson Indians
