Second Baseman Rankings
Dropping off: Skip Schumaker (No. 33), Freddy Sanchez (No. 34), Justin Turner (No. 35), Orlando Hudson (No. 38), Ryan Theriot (No. 39)
- Utley has been the No. 3 second baseman behind Kinsler and Cano so far, but with the injury possibility, I can't see ranking him quite that high. On the other hand, I don't expect much of a dip as long as he does stay healthy.
- I weighed dropping Profar based on his modest start in Triple-A (.231/.352/.385 in 91 AB) and the continued absence of any place for him to play in Texas, but he still has top-10 upside if he does get an opportunity. Interesting is that just three of his 24 starts this year have come at second base, with the rest at shortstop. Kinsler's impressive showing so far could rule out any chance of an in-season position switch. If Profar starts tearing up the PCL, then perhaps the Rangers could give him some outfield work, just as a temporary arrangement to get him into their lineup.
