Third Baseman Rankings
Dropping off: Greg Dobbs (No. 36), Alex Liddie (No. 39)
- Alvarez went from hitting .180 in April to .225 in May to .330 in June, but it didn't come with any reduction in strikeouts. He still has so many bad at-bats that he's a hard guy to trust, even if he does have nine homers in the last few weeks. There figure to be more ups and downs as he sets his sights on a 35-homer, 100-RBI season.
- I think Middlebrooks comes back as Boston's regular third baseman after the All-Star break. Jose Iglesias won't keep racking up hits like this forever.
- With Corey Hart out for the season, the door is open for Francisco to last at first base for the Brewers. I'm not very optimistic that it will happen, though; his power doesn't make up for his lack of OBP. I expect that the Brewers will eventually want to give Hunter Morris a look. However, they could also trade Aramis and put Francisco back at third.
