- Tulowitzki is aiming to return from his broken rib right after the All-Star break, so I'm keeping him in the top spot. If there was some guarantee Hanley would overcome his hamstring woes, I probably would have put him there instead. He's been incredibly impressive in his limited action, even dating back to spring training. I think he'd be in the MVP race right now if not for the thumb and hamstring injuries.
- The Mariners, again trading defense for offense, called up Miller to replace the light-hitting Ryan at shortstop. Miller was one of the better hitters in the high minors this year, coming in at .319/.399/.521 with 12 homers, 53 RBI and a 48/35 K/BB ratio in 257 at-bats between Double- and Triple-A. His OPS actually jumped from .850 to 1.022 following his move up to the PCL. Unfortunately, Miller is erratic defensively and probably won't last at shortstop; in fact, he might be best suited for an outfield corner. That's a problem for Mariners pitchers, and it's taken into account in their rankings this month. Miller, though, should be a decent enough fantasy shortstop. The big problem there is that he's hitting low in a lousy lineup, which will lead to poor run and RBI numbers. I wouldn't be quick to grab him in a mixed league.
- Billy Hamilton still hasn't taken any sort of step forward in Triple-A to force his way into the Reds' outfield picture. After an improved May in which he hit .279/.341/.352, he fell to .245/.274/.363 in June. He does have 49 steals in 58 attempts, but the .302 OBP isn't enticing at all.
