August Shortstop RankingsMonday, August 05, 2013
Welcome to the August shortstop rankings. Players are ranked based on how I believe they will perform in 5x5 leagues over the remainder of the season. Along with the position rankings, you'll find a fully updated top 300 list.

Top 300 | SP | RP | OF | 1B | 2B | SS | 3B | C | DH
Dropping off: Pedro Ciriaco (No. 42), Willie Bloomquist (No. 45), Dee Gordon (No. 57), Munenori Kawasaki (No. 59), Adam Rosales (No. 60)
- Derek Jeter's setback with his calf dropped him three spots from No. 17 to No. 20.
- I decided to stick Jhonny Peralta and Everth Cabrera in the mid-40s, since it looks like they'll begin serving 50-game suspensions this week. Maybe one of the two will throw us a changeup.
- Nick Franklin's Rookie of the Year bid is being derailed by strikeouts. He fanned just 17 times in 98 at-bats in June, but it jumped all of the way to 37 times in 94 at-bats last month. He's 0-for-14 with five strikeouts through three games in August. He also hasn't attempted a steal since June 29. His power has been impressive, but he should be a better all-around player than this.
- My guess is that the Red Sox are going to give Xander Bogaerts a look at third base within the next couple of weeks. I don't see him tearing it up right away, but he should hit some doubles and be a decent run producer towards the bottom of a very productive lineup. If he does get the call, he'll quickly jump into the top 20 of the shortstop rankings.
