September Catcher RankingsTuesday, September 03, 2013
Welcome to the September catcher rankings. As always, players are ranked based on how I believe they'll perform in 5x5 scoring over the rest of the season. Included along with the position rankings is an updated top 300 list. I try to list players at the positions at which they're most valuable, so if you can't find that second baseman you're looking for, check shortstop instead.

Top 300 | SP | RP | OF | 1B | 2B | SS | 3B | C | DH
Dropping off: John Buck (No. 29), Austin Romine (No. 38), Tony Cruz (No. 41), Tim Federowicz (No. 43)
- I originally had Yadier Molina topping the list this month, but then he left Monday's game against the Reds with left wrist soreness. It's not supposed to be anything serious, but I did drop him behind Victor Martinez as a result.
- Jason Castro was set to come in at No. 13 before Monday's knee injury knocked him down to No. 18. It might actually be quite a bit worse than that.
- The Braves had the chance to work Evan Gattis back into their lineup with Jason Heyward down, yet chose not to exercise it. In fact, he had one plate appearance in a week before being sent down after Friday's game. The Braves are going to bring him right back to the majors, of course, but it's anyone's guess whether he'll get the chance to shove Joey Terdoslavich aside in left field. Manager Fredi Gonzalez also has the option to play neither and go with B.J. Upton in center and Jordan Schafer in left. I'd rather see if Gattis can recapture some of that early season magic, but I'm not optimistic that he'll get the chance.
- I have faith in Travis d'Arnaud's ability, but hitting at the bottom of one of the league's weakest lineups won't help him generate much fantasy value this month. He looks like a borderline No. 2 catcher in mixed leagues at the moment.
