June Third Baseman Rankings

Monday, June 02, 2014

Here are the June Rankings. Players are ranked for the remainder of the season based on how I believe they’ll perform in 5x5 leagues. Players are also listed at the positions where they’re most valuable, so if you don’t see that third baseman you’re looking for, he’s probably listed at second or short.

  • Moustakas hit .355 with a homer in eight games in the minors, so, obviously, he’s all fixed. Right? Right??

It’s safe to say the Royals wouldn’t have brought him back quite so suddenly if not for Valencia’s ankle injury, but I do think going to Johnny Giavotella and giving Moustakas at least one more week in the minors would have made more sense.

  • Barring something unexpected, Middlebrooks won’t have a starting job waiting for him once he returns from a fractured finger. The Red Sox could use him against left-handers, with Xander Bogaerts sliding back to shortstop and Stephen Drew taking a seat, but I think they’d prefer to get him regular at-bats in Triple-A to that arrangement, at least through the All-Star break anyway. Ideally, he’d tear it up there and give himself some trade value. His best hope of having fantasy value in the second half would come with another organization.
