Week Ahead: Twice the Price?

Saturday, June 28, 2014

We've reached a point where David Price could seemingly be traded any day. Scouts from other teams are lining up to watch each of his starts, and the lefty is tantalizing them by continually delivering incredible performances.

In his latest turn, Price hurled 8 1/3 innings of one-run ball against the Pirates, striking out 11 and walking only one. It was his fifth straight outing with double-digit punch-outs, and over that span he's got a 2.27 ERA and 54-to-5 K/BB ratio in 39 2/3 innings.

He also has a 2-3 record in those five starts (and 6-7 overall) thanks to Tampa's lousy offense, which is why many of his owners are eagerly anticipating a move. It would be nice if any trade occurred after next week, however, so that he can stay on schedule to make two starts in fantasy leagues.

If he remains a Ray through the week, he'll take the ball on the road in New York and Detroit. It'll be fun to see if he can keep rolling and further boost his already sky-high stock.

Editor's Note: Rotoworld's partner FanDuel is hosting a one-day $40,000 Fantasy Baseball league for Friday night's MLB games. It's $25 to join and first prize is $6,000. Starts at 7:05pm ET on Friday. Here's the FanDuel link.

* Alex Wood was brilliant in his first start since taking over Gavin Floyd's spot in the Atlanta rotation, and he's lined up for home starts against the Mets and D-Backs next week, making him a highly recommended option. It might be too late to snag him in your league (he's owned in about 70 percent of Yahoo! leagues and 60 percent of ESPN leagues), but if he's there, get him.

* Houston's Jarred Cosart has been on quite a roll lately, as he has rattled off five straight quality starts and picked up a win in the last four. He gets Seattle at home and the Angels on the road, and he's unowned in almost 90 percent of Yahoo! leagues.

* Jesse Hahn has been flat-out fantastic in his first four starts for the Padres, with a 2.38 ERA to go along with huge strikeout and grounder rates. He's going twice at Petco, making him an easy Strong Play, and there's a very good chance you can pick him up.

* Last year Jeff Locke won 10 games and posted a 3.52 ERA despite issuing a league-leading 84 walks. He's looking like a better version of himself now, with vastly improved control. In four starts this month, the lefty has registered a 2.54 ERA and 18-to-4 K/BB ratio in 28 innings. He's available in more than 90 percent of fantasy leagues and gets the ball twice at home against mediocre lineups.

* Top pitching prospect Taijuan Walker is expected to return to the Mariners rotation on Monday, setting him up for a pair of road starts in his first week back with the Mariners.
