Dropping off: Matt Shoemaker (99th), Adam Wainwright (122nd), Jarlin Garcia (134th), Homer Bailey (144th), Lucas Giolito (146th), Francis Martes (149th)

  • I was going to move Chris Archer back up a few spots this month, but the strained groin is giving me pause. If it proves to be nothing, he’d rank right around 20th.

  • Walker Buehler would rank as a top-30 SP for the short term, but I still wonder how much of the second half he’ll spend in the rotation. Buehler pitched five innings after returning from Tommy John surgery in 2016 and 98 innings last year. He’s at 59 innings through 11 starts between Triple-A and the majors this year.

  • Alex Reyes would have been ranked in the 60-65 range if not for the strained lat that appears likely to sideline him for at least a month. I’d expect him to pitch like a top-40 SP when healthy but given that he’s a youngster returning from Tommy John surgery, health and stamina were always going to be questions.
