MLB DFS Plays: Thursday

Thursday, June 14, 2018

This article aims to find the best overall MLB DFS Plays and Bargains to help you construct a cash-worthy lineup. The following write-ups were constructed earlier in the day, meaning injury information, weather, and lineup cards could alter the fantasy landscape. Checking starting lineups and scanning our MLB Headlines Feed should keep you in the loop.

Keep in mind that this article focuses on the evening slate starting at 7:05 ET with four games.

PITCHER

Domingo German – NY Yankees (vs Tampa Bay)

I believe you can get creative on this four-game slate for tournaments, but I’m sticking with German as the highest favorite of the evening for my cash games. The Yankees’ hurler holds a -170 moneyline designation that far exceeds any other pitcher on this slate. On top of that, the Vegas oddsmakers have assigned Tampa with the lowest run-scoring projection of all eight teams of the evening contests. German has been up-and-down this season, but he holds capable strikeout upside to post a solid performance against this middling Tampa offense.

Also Consider: Blake Snell, Anibal Sanchez

CATCHER / FIRST BASE

Paul Goldschmidt – Arizona (vs NY Mets)

Goldy has been on fire lately, looking like the leading candidate for NL Player of the Month since the calendar flipped to June. He has an outstanding righty/lefty matchup against the struggles of NYM LHP Jason Vargas, who carries an inflated 7.71 ERA on the season. Goldschmidt and his teammates have the benefit of player in their hitter-friendly home atmosphere, making them a noteworthy stack in this abbreviated slate. Goldschmidt is the first name I’m clicking into my lineup tonight.

Also Consider: J.R. Murphy, Gary Sanchez, Ryon Healy (tournaments)

SECOND BASE

Asdrubal Cabrera – NY Mets (at Arizona)

The matchup in Arizona could have plenty of runs tonight, and there’s a chance Asdrubal Cabrera will be a part of that. The second base position doesn’t have much opportunity cost on this four-game evening slate, so taking Cabrera at $2900 on FanDuel isn’t a bad move. He’s stepping in against D-Backs’ RHP Matt Koch, who has allowed five or more earned runs in three of his past five starts.

Also Consider: Eduardo Nunez, Jose Pirela

THIRD BASE

Todd Frazier – NY Mets (at Arizona)

In the previous write-up, I mentioned how the Mets’ could do some damage in hitter-friendly Chase Field tonight. There’s a chance Frazier will be a part of the fun, as inconsistent Arizona RHP Matt Koch holds a .436 wOBA and 21.6% HR/FB split against right-handed bats this season. We all know Frazier has the necessary power to cash in.

Also Consider: Rafael Devers, Cory Spangenberg, Christian Villanueva (tournaments)

SHORTSTOP

Nick Ahmed – Arizona (vs NY Mets)

Ahmed usually holds a premium lineup spot against left-handed pitching, which helps his fantasy value tonight. He’ll look to benefit from the same generous matchup (vs Jason Vargas) outlined in Goldschmidt’s write-up. Even though Ahmed is only hitting .223 on the season, he has shown some signs of fantasy life with six hits, one homer, two doubles, five RBI, and five runs over his past four starts.

Also Consider: Ketel Marte, Dansby Swanson

OUTFIELD

Chris Owings – Arizona (vs NY Mets)

Like the previous write-up of Nick Ahmed, Owings is another platoon hitter who will see an upgrade against struggling NYM left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas. Owings hasn’t done much this season (.193 average), but he’s still capable of making some fantasy noise as suggested with a solid 14.65 average over his most recent four starts. He’s only $2400 on FanDuel, making for a nice stacking extension of this Diamondback offense.

Aaron Judge / Giancarlo Stanton – NY Yankees (vs Tampa Bay)

The Yankees carry the highest run-scoring projection of the night. There’s some volatility within that, as they are facing a quality pitcher in Tampa southpaw Blake Snell. The 25 year-old lefty holds a 2.30 ERA while managing to stifle offenses like Seattle and Boston as of late. This is his first test against the Yankees this season, and the transition to hitter-friendly Yankee Stadium could cause some issues. You should have enough cap space to squeeze Judge, Stanton, or both in your lineups tonight. That’s not a bad move for cash games, as they carry a ton of upside with one swing of the bat. This combination is also substantially cheaper than the Boston outfielders of Benintendi, Martinez, and Betts.

Also Consider: J.D. Martinez, Andrew Benintendi, Nelson Cruz, Mitch Haniger, Brandon Nimmo, Hunter Renfroe (tournaments)
