Looking Ahead: 62 to the 500

During the off-season, Looking Ahead gives a snapshot of where drivers finished in 2013 and what’s ahead for them in 2014. We will look at drivers who scored at least 400 points in the Cup Series and those who earned at least 250 points in the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series.

With 62 days to go until the 2014 season-opening Daytona 500, here are some driver recaps followed by a tentative list of 2014 Sprint Cup Driver/Team lineups.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS):
Danica Patrick finished 27th in the standings and earned 646 points.
2013: Stewart-Haas Racing No. 10 Chevrolet. In 36 starts, she scored one pole, had one top-10, led five laps, and had a 30.1 average start and a 26.1 average finish. Patrick also drove the Turner Scott Motorsports No. 34 Chevrolet Camaro in two Nationwide Series races.
Best 2013 NSCS start: 1 - Daytona 2/24
Best 2013 NSCS finish: 8 - Daytona 2/24
Last career NSCS win: None so far.
2014: Patrick returns in the No. 10 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet SS. Tony Gibson returns as crew chief.

David Gilliland finished 26th in the standings and earned 648 points.
2013: Front Row Motorsports No. 38 Ford. In 26 starts, he had one top-five, two top-10s and led 8 laps. He had a 29.4 average start and a 26.2 average finish.
Best 2013 NSCS start: 14 - Bristol 3/17
Best 2013 NSCS finish: 2 - Talladega 5/5
Last career NSCS win: None so far.
2014: Signed to drive the No. 38 Ford Fusion for full season. No confirmed sponsorship for the team at this time.

Mark Martin finished 25th in the standings and earned 649 points.
2013: Michael_Waltrip Racing No. 55 Toyota (15 races), Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 Toyota (1 race subbing for injured Denny Hamlin) and Stewart Haas Racing No. 14 Chevrolet (12 races subbing for injured Tony Stewart). In 28 starts, he had one pole, one top five, five top-10s and led 98 laps. He had an 18.1 average start and a 20.9 average finish.
Best 2013 NSCS start: 1 - Phoenix 3/3
Best 2013 NSCS finish: 3 - Daytona 2/24
Last career NSCS win: Loudon 9/20/2009.
2014: Martin has no plan to race in 2014. He will continue to assist Stewart Haas Racing with the Daytona test sessions while Tony Stewart is still recovering from the broken leg.

NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS):
Landon Cassill finished 24th in the standings and earned 359 points.
2013: JD Motorsports No. 4 Chevrolet Camaro. In 23 races he led 3 laps, had a 26.5 average start and a 24.9 average finish. Cassill also made 33 Sprint Cup Series starts in the Joe Falk Racing (Circle Sport) No. 33 and 40 Chevrolets.
Best 2013 NNS start: 19 - Richmond 4/26
Best 2013 NNS finishes: 17 - Watkins Glen 8/10 and Talladega 5/4
Last career NNS win: None so far.
2014: Cassill moves up as lead driver at JD Motorsports in the No. 4 Chevrolet Camaro. He also plans to run a full-time schedule in the Circle Sport car (No. 33 and/or the No. 40 Chevrolet). Cassill will collect championship points only in the Nationwide Series.

Johanna Long finished 23rd in the standings and earned 414 points.
2013: ML Motorsports No. 70 Chevrolet Camaro. In 23 races she had a 23.5 average start and a 23.3 average finish.
Best 2013 NNS start: 13 - Richmond 4/26
Best 2013 NNS finish: 12 - Iowa 6/9
Last career NNS win: None so far.
2014: Long became a ‘free agent’ at the end of 2013. No firm plans at this time.

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS):
Bryan Silas finished 21st in the standings and earned 354 points.
2013: T3R Motorsports No. 99 Ford F-Series. In 19 races he led one lap, had a 26.7 average start and a 25.4 average finish. Silas also made one start in the SR2 Motorsports No. 24 Toyota Camry and five starts in the Go Green Racing No. 79 Ford Mustang racing in the Nationwide Series. He logged a 26.5 average finish for those events.
Best 2013 NCWTS starts: 21 - Martinsville 4/6, Kansas 4/20 and Michigan 8/17
Best 2013 NCWTS finish: 11 - Canadian Tire Motorsports Park 9/1
Last career NCWTS win: None so far.
2014: No firm plans at this time.

Norm Benning finished 20th in the standings and earned 370 points.
2013: Norm Benning Racing No. 57 Chevrolet Silverado. In 21 starts he had a 32.9 average start and a 26.4 average finish.
Best 2013 NCWTS start: 28 - Las Vegas 9/28
Best 2013 NCWTS finish: 12 - Talladega 10/19
Last career NCWTS win: None so far.
2014: No firm plans at this time but will most likely enter his No. 57 in most NCWTS races.
