Wrap-up: Sonoma, Road America

This past weekend, both the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series made left and right turns on road courses. On Saturday, Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI hosted the Nationwide Series Gardner Denver 200. The Sprint Cup series went road racing at the Sonoma (CA) Raceway for the Toyota / SaveMart 350k on Sunday. The Camping World Truck Series returns to action with the UNOH 225, Thursday, June 26 at Kentucky Speedway (Sparta, KY). The latest results on the ARCA Racing Series and the NASCAR “Home Tracks” are also shown below.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Time Trials:
Jamie McMurray won the Coors Light Pole Award for the Toyota / SaveMart 350 with a lap of 74.354 seconds, 96.350 mph - a new track record (the previous track record was held by Marcos Ambrose, 95.262 mph, 6/24/12). This is the No. 1 Chevrolet SS driver's 10th pole in 418 NSCS races. It is his first pole and sixth top-10 start in 2014. This is McMurray's third pole in 12 races at Sonoma Raceway. He led nine laps in the race and finished in fourth place.
Did Not Qualify: None, only 43 cars entered for 43 slots.
Winner: Carl Edwards won the Toyota / SaveMart 350, his 23rd victory in 353 NSCS. This is the No. 99 Ford Fusion driver's second victory and eighth top-10 finish in 2014. This is his first victory and fifth top-10 finish in ten races at Sonoma Raceway.

NASCAR Nationwide Series
Time Trials: 
NASCAR Canadian Tire Series regular (No. 18 Dodge) Alex Tagliani won the Coors Light Pole Award for the Gardner Denver 200 with a lap of 134.411 seconds, 108.420 mph. This is the Team Penske No. 22 Ford Mustang driver's second pole in five NASCAR Nationwide Series races. This is Tagliani's first race at the Road America road course. He led 19 laps and finished in second place.
Did Not Qualify: None, only 38 cars entered for the 40 spots.
Winner: Brendan Gaughan won the Gardner Denver 200, his first victory in 98 NNS races. This is the No. 62 Chevrolet Camaro driver's third top-10 finish in 2014. It is his second top-10 finish in three races at Road America. Gaughan started the race fifth in the lineup, led eight laps and is currently seventh in the 2014 NNS point standings.
