To the Back: Watkins Glen

Sunday, August 5, 2018

Paul Menard and Kurt Busch failed inspection Sunday morning and will drop to the back of the field to start the Go Bowling at Watkins Glen International.Ty Dillon and Landon Cassill will drop to the back for unapproved adjustments.

Menard will have to give up his 14th-place position on the grid and fall to 37th (last) in the field. Busch was scheduled to start 21st and will now start 36th based on owner points.

The place-differential for both drivers will be based on this qualification effort and since both are solid road course racers, they should still be able to contend for a top-15 at least, which will add somewhere in the range of 22 points to their total.

Dillon gives up his 30th-place position on the grid, but his place-differential will be based on starting 30th. Cassill was the slowest qualifier, so he only falls back one row.

Last week, 13 cars failed post-qualification inspection at Pocono Raceway.

Denny Hamlin retains his pole position with Kyle Busch lining up on his outside.
