Fantasy Hoops Mock Draft Two

Tuesday, August 1, 2017

After a quick look at the rookies last week, we're back to finish up the two-man mock draft. In case you missed the explanation last time, Jonas Nader and I did a 12-team mock draft with each of us getting six teams and alternating picks. This is a nine-cat, head-to-head format, so turnovers do play a factor here. Although, the H2H aspect means it's easy to punt on a category.

Both Jonas and I are all about upside late, so the high-ceiling guys probably came off the board a lot sooner than you'll see in your leagues. Plus, the high-floor guys slipped a bit for the same reasoning.

If you missed the first edition, you can bang it here for the analysis of those picks. I did put the picks below, but they didn't have the analysis on this edition.

Alright, here are the newer picks. Expect a lot of changes in the next month or so. Plus, I'll also be doing some mock drafts, so follow me on Twitter @MikeSGallagher. We did about 10 over the weekend.

We'll also be talking about this again on the next pod.

  Team Player
85  Mike 6 Thaddeus Young
86  Jonas 6 Elfrid Payton
87  Mike 5 Marvin Williams
88  Jonas 5 Evan Fournier
89  Mike 4 Rodney Hood
90  Jonas 4 James Johnson
91  Mike 3 Wilson Chandler
92  Jonas 3 Marcus Smart
93  Mike 2 T.J. Warren
94  Jonas 2 Darren Collison
95  Mike 1 Patrick Beverley
96  Jonas 1 Dirk Nowitzki

Jonas and Mike 6 teams are both punting FT%, so that explains the poor shooting guys to start this one off. Young could be really good without the FT%, especially after his terrific run back with the Nets in 2015-16 season. Marvin and Fournier were both some very safe picks for us. Marvin has basically a top-40 player down the stretch last year and he really seems to have found a home. Although, a lot of people dropped him to start last year, so this is probably where he'll be going.

I took a shot on Rodney Hood. One year after his breakout 2015-16, Hood had a nightmare season last year. He's headed for a massive bump in usage rate and he should see more dimes -- he can run PNR fairly well.

Collison could wind up being a huge steal and the same goes for Pat-Bev. I think I'm generally off Boston players unless they slide.

  Team Player
97  Jonas 1 Julius Randle
98  Mike 1 Boban Marjanovic
99  Jonas 2 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
100  Mike 2 Kent Bazemore
101  Jonas 3 Eric Gordon
102  Mike 3 Willie Cauley-Stein
103  Jonas 4 Jonas Valanciunas
104 Mike 4 Steven Adams
105  Jonas 5 Greg Monroe
106  Mike 5 Josh Richardson
107  Jonas 6 Dwight Howard
108  Mike 6 Malcolm Brogdon

I took the plunge on Boban. Now that Aron Baynes is officially gone, Boban should have his 20 minutes per game. He could be a 13-7 guy in that time with good percentages and some defense. Sign me up for that. I like Jonas' Julius pick, especially if he can play some five.

This round had a surprising number of high-floor guys here. I still like J-Rich 2 even with Dion Waiters still in the mix. The Bucks could still deal Monroe, which would likely help him. I don't think I'll be drafting Dwight or Eric Gordon this year.

  Team Player
109  Mike 6 Reggie Jackson
110  Jonas 6 Rajon Rondo
111  Mike 5 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
112  Jonas 5 Brandon Ingram
113  Mike 4 Terrence Ross
114  Jonas 4 Markieff Morris
115  Mike 3 Dejounte Murray
116  Jonas 3 Zach LaVine
117  Mike 2 Robin Lopez
118  Jonas 2 Derrick Favors
119  Mike 1 JaMychal Green
120  Jonas 1 Milos Teodosic

Lots of interesting picks here. MKG was really good last year, especially with how his defensive stats popped up and how he turned in good percentages. Sure, he probably won't be a mid-round guy like he was when he was humming, but 111 is a bargain. Markieff Morris is basically the same guy as MKG and he'll likely have a tough time matching his value from last year -- still a great value. Robin Lopez seems like he should have no problem hitting this value, assuming the Bulls don't shut him down.

I don't think I'll ever draft Rajon Rondo, but this is fine right here. We also had a lot of solid players with decent upside: Milos, J-Myke (crushed while Zach Randolph was out last year), Dejounte, Ingram and T-Ross. All of them could have some new responsibility.

  Team Player
121  Jonas 1 Donovan Mitchell
122  Mike 1 Buddy Hield
123  Jonas 2 Dwyane Wade
124  Mike 2 Kris Dunn
125  Jonas 3 Pau Gasol
126  Mike 3 Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
127  Jonas 4 Tyler Ulis
128  Mike 4 Justise Winslow
129  Jonas 5 J.J. Redick
130  Mike 5 Thon Maker
131  Jonas 6 Rudy Gay
132  Mike 6 Jarrett Allen

With the exception of Jonas' picks of Pau, Wade and Redick, this was a very upside-y round. Most of these guys are coming off injury or they're on a young team with some changes coming. Kris Dunn was bad in summer league, but he could start on a team that should run up the court. My last two picks were upside centers with both having plenty of opportunity.

  Team Player
133  Mike 6 Caris LeVert
134  Jonas 6 Rudy Gay
135  Mike 5 Jayson Tatum
136  Jonas 5 John Collins
137  Mike 4 Josh Jackson
138  Jonas 4 Jonathan Isaac
139  Mike 3 Allen Crabbe
140  Jonas 3 Nikola Mirotic
141  Mike 2 Lou Williams
142  Jonas 2 Dario Saric
143  Mike 1 Norman Powell
144  Jonas 1 Skal Labissiere

This LeVert pick came before the Allen Crabbe deal, so basically this pick has expired. I love LeVert and he could be good in a couple years. The good news is his minutes cap is likely off, so I may still take him late.

Rookie run! I didn't think Jonas was going to pounce on John Collins, so I guess I'm not the only one to go that route. I think both Jonas and I kind of slept on Norm Powell and I would probably have taken him 20 picks earlier.

I also took Allen Crabbe just as the trade was announced, so bump him up like five rounds. He's in a great spot.

  Team Player
145  Jonas 1 Joe Ingles
146  Mike 1 Enes Kanter
147  Jonas 2 Dewayne Dedmon
148  Mike 2 Chandler Parsons
149  Jonas 3 Stanley Johnson
150  Mike 3 Ian Clark
151  Jonas 4 Jaylen Brown
152  Mike 4 Moe Harkless
153  Jonas 5 Frank Ntilikina
154  Mike 5 Caleb Swanigan
155  Jonas 6 De'Aaron Fox
156  Mike 6 Ryan Anderson

Joe Ingles was another slept-on player and he should've probably gone 20 picks earlier before we were going cray with upside. Chandler Parsons is only two years removed from putting up early-round value to end his season once he was healthy.

Maybe Ian Clark lands in NY? He's a good player, especially for teams looking to have play-making wings or bigs. I think the Blazers could be undervalued this year. Yeah, Allen Crabbe only had a 14.9 usage rate, but 28.5 minutes per game is a big hole to fill.

Jonas took a lot of wings in new roles, as well. Basically, fire up the Spider Man meme for Stanley and Jaylen.

  Team Player
157  Mike 6 Dragan Bender
158  Jonas 6 Kenneth Faried
159  Mike 5 Delon Wright
160  Jonas 5 Cheick Diallo
161  Mike 4 Kyle Kuzma
162  Jonas 4 Juancho Hernangomez
163  Mike 3 Dion Waiters
164  Jonas 3 Wesley Matthews
165  Mike 2 Lauri Markkanen
166  Jonas 2 Jabari Parker
167  Mike 1 DeAndre Bembry
168  Jonas 1 Bam Adebayo

Upside fest. I loved what Dragan Bender did and I think he could play three positions, so that's really going to help his ceiling for a rebuilding team. Jonas Cheick'd off the AD handcuff box and he also had a nice mixture of bounce-back candidates, rookies and IR stashes in Jabari.

Kyle Kuzma's top-scoring summer league was just too good to ignore. Bembry playing the two in summer league is interesting and he'll be in the rotation. Don't forget he locked up James Harden in one of the best games of the season. Hey, maybe the Knicks watched that game 37 times before they signed THJ.

  Team Player
169  Jonas 1 Will Barton
170  Mike 1 Al-Farouq Aminu
171  Jonas 2 Derrick Rose
172  Mike 2 Courtney Lee
173  Jonas 3 Jordan Clarkson
174  Mike 3 Ersan Ilyasova
175  Jonas 4 Patty Mills
176  Mike 4 Bogdan Bogdanovic
177  Jonas 5 Jordan Crawford
178  Mike 5 Bojan Bogdanovic
179  Jonas 6 Denzel Valentine
180  Mike 6 Justin Jackson

Courtney Lee is going to hit some nice value in NY, assuming he doesn't get traded. If you swing for upside, grab Lee late to mitigate the risk. You could say the same for Ghostface Ilya. Jordan Clarkson kind of has a yesterday's news feel and he did have a horrible year last year, but last round is solid. Patty Mills is going to hit value for sure, but we all know what his upside is.

Mike Gallagher has covered fantasy hoops for eight years and this season is his second with Rotoworld. You can find him on Twitter talking about a player's shots at the rim.
