FanDuel NBA Plays: Wednesday

Wednesday, January 3, 2018

A big Wednesday slate is here again. Let's dig in deeper now and find some top FanDuel plays at each position.

Point Guard

Chris Paul: $9,900 (vs. Orlando)

Yes, this is a ton of money to spend on one player, especially considering that player has missed a lot of time this season with knee injuries. However, James Harden is out tonight, and that should open up things for Chris Paul in this offense. He’s already looked dynamic in this system and those numbers should only go up tonight with Harden out of the game. Harden just doesn’t miss games for the Houston Rockets, as he’s been incredibly durable, so we really don’t have a lot of track record to try and figure out who may benefit the most. That said, it is extremely safe to assume that Paul is going to be a virtual lock for a double-double tonight, and I think it’s a pretty good bet that he slips in a triple-double if he can grab a couple of extra rebounds.

Others to Consider: Eric Bledsoe, Jamal Murray

Shooting Guard

Will Barton: $6,600 (vs. Phoenix)

I think Barton is going to be someone that goes vastly overlooked tonight by the general public, but he is one of my favorite plays on the board. After a rough stretch in which the fantasy production was down, he’s now exceeded 38 FanDuel points the last two games. He still plays plenty of minutes, and tonight he get a matchup that just couldn’t be any better for him. Phoenix comes to town after having a tough game last night and is now in Denver for the second game of a back-to-back. The Suns should already be a step slower, and even if they compete in this game and keep it close, Barton should still see has 30+ minutes tonight. But, I think there’s a very real possibility of a blowout, and Barton is the one guy from the core of this team that will get premium minutes even in a blowout. And if that’s the case, he’s getting those minutes against second-teamers from Phoenix. Barton fits the high upside profile of the type of player I like to put on my daily fantasy rosters.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Will Barton is now considered questionable with an illness. Double-check his final status before clicking him into your lineups.

Others to Consider: Donovan Mitchell, Eric Gordon

Small Forward

Lance Stephenson: $6,200 (vs. Milwaukee)

Victor Oladipo has been ruled out for tonight, and that means we should get another start for Lance Stephenson. The last game against Minnesota, in which he only played 22 minutes, is a bit concerning, but the two starts before that Stephenson averaged nearly 37 FanDuel points per game and 35.5 minutes. This is a great price tag, and it’s tough to find options that have the type of upside that Stephenson does in this price range. It allows you to stuff some of these other studs on your roster tonight yet still maintain a high floor.

Others to Consider: Otto Porter, Harrison Barnes

Power Forward

LaMarcus Aldridge: $8,400 (vs. Philadelphia)

Considering that this is the San Antonio Spurs and they played a game last night in New York, you may want to keep up on the news tonight to make sure that LaMarcus Aldridge isn’t going to be a scratch. At this point in the day, it is highly unlikely that Kawhi Leonard plays tonight, and I doubt that they would want to rest Aldridge also. In the seven games this season that Leonard has played in, Aldridge averages 34.4 FanDuel points per game. In the 26 games Aldridge played in which Leonard missed earlier this season, LMA averaged 39.4 FanDuel points per game. So, he is clearly a much better fantasy producer when Leonard is out, and he gets an excellent matchup tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers. There are plenty of ways to spend your money tonight, and if this is too much to spend at this spot, I’ve listed a player below that I think can produce a pretty good total for his price tag tonight. That’s what those “Others to Consider” footnote is for.

Others to Consider: Aaron Gordon, Jayson Tatum

Center

Al Horford: $7,500 (vs. Cleveland)

For $7,500 on FanDuel tonight, you can lock up your center spot with an absolute rock of a player. Al Horford and the Boston Celtics are at home tonight to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers in a game where they have a 108 team total right now, according to Vegas. Horford hasn’t had to play since New Year’s Eve, so he is well rested. He’s been as steady as they come this year, averaging 34 FanDuel points per game. In the six games that he’s played this year in which he has had two or more days of rest, that FanDuel average jumps up to over 37 points per game. He’s a veteran player that is going to be best served when he is well rested (like tonight) and there is some motivation in this game against the Celtics' biggest Eastern Conference rivals.

Others to Consider: Nikola Jokic, Andre Drummond
