RB Notes: Last week was a good one for Fred Jackson owners. Jackson started the game and looks healthy enough to start taking over the lead role in Buffalo's offense. C.J. Spiller isn't patient enough yet as a runner to let his blocks develop. When he does have some space, he's also seeing holes close a lot faster than it did in college for him. One concern for Jackson was that Marshawn Lynch looked pretty good in limited work. Lynch played two series by himself, including on in the first half. Lynch is worth owning in deep leagues. I'd rather own Jackson than Spiller. Incidentally, the Bills ran a lot of two tailback sets throughout the day.

Ronnie Brown looked like Ronnie Brown last week. He was jumping, cutting, and making people miss. He'll never run away from people. It's frustrating the Dolphins turned to Ricky Williams almost exclusively to finish the game out, but Miami is trying to keep Brown healthy all year. … Fred Taylor is playing great, but the Patriots will make sure not to overwork him. He's not going to be a great fantasy option on a weekly basis. … The absence of Jeff Otah really hurt DeAngelo Williams last week. So did Matt Moore's incompetence. There just weren't many holes to run through once the game got going. Look for a better effort this week, but it makes Williams a shaky RB2 and Jonathan Stewart a flex in the right matchup. This is one of them.

The Lions' run blocking was a concern for Jahvid Best last week. But he just didn't get many carries that weren't in short yardage situations. It's encouraging that the Lions trust Best around the goal line and on third-and-one. He ran like a pro. Shaun Hill's presence won't make things easier, but we have enormous faith in the rookie. … Lost somewhat in Matt Forte's awesome effort is that he averaged under three yards-per-carry against the Lions. His value is going to be a receiver. And his burst looks better than it ever did, even in his rookie year. He's running away from cornerbacks. Chester Taylor also looked very very good in the game. What a nice pickup for Chicago. If Forte gets hurt, Taylor will be a top-20 option. He should be owned in shallow leagues.

Gotta like the way Brandon Jackson made Eagles defenders miss last week. He'll be a weekly fantasy start getting at least 15 touches per game. … Not sure I buy the new Darren McFadden this week, but it doesn't really matter if he's playing the Rams. … Look for Shonn Greene to get more carries than LaDainian Tomlinson this week, although the Patriots will do everything possible to shut down the running game. Rex Ryan didn't seem happy with the time Greene spent on the bench.

WR Notes: Trent Edwards didn't attempt the vertical throws he did in the preseason in the season opener. I'm still bullish on Lee Evans having a revived season, but he needs some help from Edwards and his other receivers. Look for improvement this week. He's a risky WR3, but not that risky. … Steve Breaston has been a starting-quality receiver now for a few years. With Early Doucet hurt in Arizona, he's going to get a chance to produce like a top-20 wideout. Larry Fitzgerald did not appear close to 100% in last week's game and could have his snaps limited.

Brian Hartline could start losing snaps in Miami, which is good news for Davone Bess owners. Bess could wind up being an underrated option to use as a PPR flex. Just like the end of last year. … Good sign for Brandon Marshall owners that he did well for the most part with his opportunities. He dropped an underthrown deep ball, but Marshall made plays after the catch despite his average box score. Look for him to go deep more this week. … Overall, it was a very encouraging game for Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco. This is a passing attack that looks capable of garbage time yards. That wasn't the case last year.

Dennis Dixon made plays last week and had a great yards-per-attempt average. I'm still nervous about the Pittsburgh wideouts. … Mark Sanchez's regression is making me re-think Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards. They aren't guys you want to use in any scenario. Santonio Holmes will make this wideout group make sense, but you need to wait for Sanchez to snap out of his funk to play them. … Mike Sims-Walker's o-fer was brutal. He apparently can't beat top corners like Champ Bailey yet. Still, this is a great matchup against a suspect Chargers secondary. I expect a lot of passing yards for both teams in this one.
