Dynasty Startup Mock: Part II

Monday, July 09, 2012

Last week we explained the difference in Dynasty value between startup drafts and in-season championship runs while introducing the first eleven rounds of a one-man mock draft. Below is the second half of the mock draft, finishing with 276 players and 23 rounds.

Round Twelve

133. Gent's Depraved Boozers - Rueben Randle, WR, Giants, 21.3
134. Blount's Three Bricks Shy - Kendall Hunter, RB, 49ers, 24.0
135. Cosell's Cocksure Carnival Barkers - LaMichael James, RB, 49ers, 22.9
136. Exley's Self-Loathing Anti-Heroes - Randy Moss, WR, 49ers, 35.5
137. Plimpton's Paper Lions - Andy Dalton, QB, Bengals, 24.8
138. Jenkins' Semi-Tough Sumbitches - Jacoby Ford, WR, Raiders, 25.1
139. Shula's Champagne Poppers - Bernard Pierce, RB, Ravens, 21.3
140. Vermeil's Crocodile Tears - Matt Schaub, QB, Texans, 31.2
141. Tuna's Big Cigars & Motorcars - Kevin Smith, RB, Lions, 25.7
142. Mini Ditka - Greg Olsen, TE, Panthers, 27.5
143. Denny Green's Arse Crowners - Peyton Hillis, RB, Chiefs, 26.6
144. Mora's Playoff Pipe Dreams - Malcom Floyd, WR, Chargers, 31.0

With one of the most questionable wide receiver groups in the league, Gent grabs another promising rookie in Randle. ... Both profiling as change-of-pace backs, Hunter and James figure to share the load in a committee attack over the next half-decade. ... Moss adds veteran insurance for the injury-prone Sidney Rice on Exley's roster. ... Dalton provides Plimpton with a solid if unspectacular backup to Matthew Stafford. Rotoworld prefers the more talented Christian Ponder's upside to Dalton in both redraft and Dynasty formats.

Shula grabs Pierce to back up Ray Rice, who remains without a contract. ... Kevin Smith and Hillis provide peace of mind for the Jahvid Best and Jamaal Charles owners. ... Olsen is a solid TE2 to succeed the aging Antonio Gates on Ditka's roster. ... Floyd and Ford provide depth as boom-or-bust WR4 options. ... Schaub is a veteran clip-board holder for Andrew Luck on Vermeil's roster.

Round Thirteen

145. Mora's Playoff Pipe Dreams - Rashad Jennings, RB, Jaguars, 27.4
146. Denny Green's Arse Crowners - Ryan Tannehill, QB, Dolphins, 24.1
147. Mini Ditka - Pierre Thomas, RB, Saints, 27.7
148. Tuna's Big Cigars & Motorcars - Tony Gonzalez, TE, Falcons, 36.5
149. Vermeil's Crocodile Tears - Ryan Broyles, WR, Lions, 24.4
150. Shula's Champagne Poppers - BenJarvus Green-Ellis, RB, Bengals, 27.2
151. Jenkins' Semi-Tough Sumbitches - Anquan Boldin, WR, Ravens, 31.9
152. Plimpton's Paper Lions - Isaac Redman, RB, Steelers, 27.8
153. Exley's Self-Loathing Anti-Heroes - A.J. Jenkins, WR, 49ers, 21.8
154. Cosell's Cocksure Carnival Barkers - Rob Housler, TE, Cardinals, 24.5
155. Blount's Three Bricks Shy - Dustin Keller, TE, Jets, 27.9
156. Gent's Depraved Boozers - Lance Moore, WR, Saints, 29.0

Jennings and Redman are handcuff picks. Arguably the slowest starting tailback in the NFL, future flash-in-the-pan Redman is going far too high for our taste in startup mocks. ... Tannehill will have plenty of time to marinate behind Aaron Rodgers on Green's roster. ... Gonzalez is a handy veteran complement to rookie Coby Fleener while Housler provides Cosell with an intriguing project behind Vernon Davis. ... Pierre Thomas remains an ideal RB4 who can be plugged in as a flex option in a worst-case scenario.

Green-Ellis gives Shula a bye-week fill-in behind Ray Rice and Matt Forte while Boldin performs the same role on Jenkins' squad. ... Broyles and Jenkins are long-term projects for Vermeil and Exley. ... Keller and Moore provide veteran depth as injury insurance.

Round Fourteen

157. Gent's Depraved Boozers - Lance Kendricks, TE, Rams, 24.6
158. Blount's Three Bricks Shy - Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Chiefs, 23.1
159. Cosell's Cocksure Carnival Barkers - Vincent Brown, WR, Chargers, 23.6
160. Exley's Self-Loathing Anti-Heroes - Owen Daniels, TE, Texans, 29.8
161. Plimpton's Paper Lions - Mohamed Sanu, WR, Bengals, 23.0
162. Jenkins' Semi-Tough Sumbitches - Jacob Tamme, TE, Broncos, 27.5
163. Shula's Champagne Poppers - Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals, 28.6
164. Vermeil's Crocodile Tears - Evan Royster, RB, Redskins, 24.8
165. Tuna's Big Cigars & Motorcars - Jerome Simpson, WR, Vikings, 26.6
166. Mini Ditka - Golden Tate, WR, Seahawks, 24.1
167. Denny Green's Arse Crowners - Chris Givens, WR, Rams, 22.7
168. Mora's Playoff Pipe Dreams - Brandon Weeden, QB, Browns, 28.9

Tamme is more of a short-term patch as opposed to the long-term solution for the Broncos. Kendricks and Daniels are significantly more talented, even if Tamme racks up more fantasy points in 2012. ... Baldwin and Brown are promising young receivers likely another year away from hitting the fantasy radar. ... Simpson and Tate, on the other hand, could reach WR3 status this season. ... Shula grabs Scott to score a monopoly on the fantasy-unfriendly Bengals backfield. ... There's some chatter that Royster could emerge as the back to own in the Redskins committee attack. Vermeil picks up both Royster and Hightower to complete the trio. ... Weeden gives Mora another developmental QB behind the aging Tom Brady.

Round Fifteen

169. Mora's Playoff Pipe Dreams - Brandon LaFell, WR, Panthers, 25.8
170. Denny Green's Arse Crowners - Robert Turbin, RB, Seahawks, 22.7
171. Mini Ditka - Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Bills, 29.8
172. Tuna's Big Cigars & Motorcars - Laurent Robinson, WR, Jaguars, 27.3
173. Vermeil's Crocodile Tears - Tim Hightower, RB, Redskins, 26.3
174. Shula's Champagne Poppers - Matt Flynn, QB, Seahawks, 27.2
175. Jenkins' Semi-Tough Sumbitches - Alex Green, RB, Packers, 22.8
176. Plimpton's Paper Lions - Tony Moeaki, TE, Chiefs, 25.2
177. Exley's Self-Loathing Anti-Heroes - Jacquizz Rodgers, RB, Falcons, 22.6
178. Cosell's Cocksure Carnival Barkers - Nate Washington, WR, Titans, 29.0
179. Blount's Three Bricks Shy - Mario Manningham, WR, 49ers, 26.3
180. Gent's Depraved Boozers - 49ers Defense, D/ST, 49ers

Ditka and Shula both pick up strong QB3s as insurance for Jake Locker and Peyton Manning respectively. ... Turbin and Green look like long-term handcuffs for Marshawn Lynch and James Starks. ... Rodgers lasts until the 15th round because he's a sketchy flex option outside of full PPR leagues. ... Robinson, Washington and Manningham are low upside veterans with waning fantasy value in the transition from 2011 to 2012. ... The 49ers are the first defense off the board after boasting the NFL's stingiest D/ST combo last year.

Round Sixteen

181. Gent's Depraved Boozers - Davone Bess, WR, Dolphins, 27.0
182. Blount's Three Bricks Shy - Nick Toon, WR, Saints, 23.8
183. Cosell's Cocksure Carnival Barkers - Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Steelers, 25.5
184. Exley's Self-Loathing Anti-Heroes - James Jones, WR, Packers, 28.4
185. Plimpton's Paper Lions - Brian Hartline, WR, Dolphins, 25.8
186. Jenkins' Semi-Tough Sumbitches - Mark Sanchez, QB, Jets, 25.8
187. Shula's Champagne Poppers - Doug Baldwin, WR, Seahawks, 23.9
188. Vermeil's Crocodile Tears - Juron Criner, WR, Raiders, 22.7
189. Tuna's Big Cigars & Motorcars - Heath Miller, TE, Steelers, 29.9
190. Mini Ditka - Dion Lewis, RB, Eagles, 21.9
191. Denny Green's Arse Crowners - Colin Kaepernick, QB, 49ers, 24.8
192. Mora's Playoff Pipe Dreams - Delone Carter, RB, Colts, 25.2

Kaepernick goes off the board before Alex Smith because he has a chance to be a fantasy asset someday. Smith has had trouble reaching even QB2 production. ... Rookies Toon and Criner both opened eyes in offseason practices. ... Hartline, Jones, and Sanders are all entering make-or-break seasons.

Round Seventeen

193. Mora's Playoff Pipe Dreams - Taiwan Jones, RB, Raiders, 24.1
194. Denny Green's Arse Crowners - Alex Smith, QB, 49ers, 28.3
195. Mini Ditka - Mike Goodson, RB, Raiders, 25.3
196. Tuna's Big Cigars & Motorcars - Javon Ringer, RB, Titans, 25.6
197. Vermeil's Crocodile Tears - Tim Tebow, QB, Jets, 25.1
198. Shula's Champagne Poppers - Marcedes Lewis, TE, Jaguars, 28.3
199. Jenkins' Semi-Tough Sumbitches - Giants Defense, D/ST, Giants
200. Plimpton's Paper Lions - Braylon Edwards, WR, Free Agent, 29.5
201. Exley's Self-Loathing Anti-Heroes - Chris Ivory, RB, Saints, 24.4
202. Cosell's Cocksure Carnival Barkers - Matt Cassel, QB, Chiefs, 30.3
203. Blount's Three Bricks Shy - Blaine Gabbert, QB, Jaguars, 22.9
204. Gent's Depraved Boozers - Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Steelers, 23.1

Goodson, Ringer, and Ivory are purely handcuff picks. ... Tebow is a wild card pick for a roster with no glaring needs at this point. ... Braylon still has WR3 potential if his knee bounces back this summer. ... Cassel may have only one more year left as an NFL starter. ... Dwyer is an interesting sleeper pick behind underwhelming role player Isaac Redman.
