Get the 2012 Draft Guide!

Friday, August 24, 2012

We've reached Week 3 of the preseason. That means crunch time for fantasy football drafts is already here.

Let the 2012 Draft Guide be your secret weapon as you finalize your strategy — in your neighborhood's approximation of an authentic Irish pub — to dominate your fantasy league.

Come for the subscriber-only chatstop offseason transactionsrankingstiers and projections; stay for the more than 500 player profiles, featuring unparalleled analysis of each player's past production and future value. Here's an example from Adrian Peterson:

2011: The best of the best among NFL backs, Peterson was cruising toward a fifth consecutive top-five fantasy finish before a high-ankle sprain derailed his season in November and a torn ACL finished the job in December. Limited to just 12 games behind a subpar offensive line, Peterson still managed to place eighth in fantasy points and tied for second in rushing scores (12) while keeping pace with his career per-carry average of 4.8.

What Changed: Peterson spent the offseason working his tail off to exceed all reasonable timetables for his return. The Vikings retooled the offensive line, moving Charlie Johnson inside and replacing him at left tackle with first-rounder Matt Kalil

Outlook: There's no denying the risk associated with Peterson while returning from a shredded knee. While the Vikings are now cautiously optimistic that he will be ready for the season opener, Peterson is expected to open the season with a limited workload behind Toby Gerhart. Once he shows that his explosiveness and cutting ability have returned, Peterson’s role should grow on a weekly basis. He’s this year’s quintessential boom-or-bust pick, with the boom more likely to occur in the season’s second half.

Updated Aug. 24: ESPN's Chris Mortensen reiterates that the Vikings' goal is for Adrian Peterson (knee) to play in Week 1. Peterson has been showing well without taking contact in practices. Although he won't play in Friday's preseason game, the Vikes were quick to point out that it's just precautionary. "There are no setbacks. That's not the reason we're doing it," coach Leslie Frazier said. "We just feel like more time with him in practice with some of the things that we're doing and the progression of getting him ready for the season, it's the right thing to do."

Once you've armed yourself with the essentials listed above, the Draft Guide tailors strategy to your league's format. Mike Clay discusses Auction League Strategies, Frank DuPont highlights differences in PPR drafting, Jeff Ratcliffe expands our IDP coverage and Adam Levitan recommends return-yardage targets. Not to be outdone, Chris Wesseling provides extensive lists of sleepers and busts in addition to his 300-deep Dynasty league ranks while Evan Silva delves into game tape analysis. Don't forget the recent non-PPR mock draft breakdown as well as the always popular Bold Predictions.

Unlike the magazines littered throughout supermarkets, corner shops and books stores, the Rotoworld Draft Guide is constantly updating. In addition to new columns, we update projections and rankings to reflect injuries, depth chart changes and players on the rise throughout the preseason.
