DMC Derailed

Monday, November 05, 2012

A frustrating season for Darren McFadden got significantly worse on Sunday with news that Run DMC has a high-ankle sprain, an injury that seems likely to leave him sidelined for multiple weeks.

Things then became considerably more annoying/terrible when McFadden's reasonably promising backup Mike Goodson (10.1 yards per touch heading into Sunday) suffered an ankle injury of his own.

As of Sunday night there was no word on exactly how long either McFadden or Goodson might be out, but Marcel Reese (8 rec, 95 yds, TD) is suddenly worth a look in a lot of formats. Taiwan Jones (1 rush, 2 yds; 1 rec, 4 yds) also warrants some consideration off waivers, but the best scenario for the Oakland backfield (assuming McFadden is out multiple weeks) would be for Goodson to make it back in a hurry.

In other injury news...

Percy Harvin played through hamstring trouble, and sustained an ankle injury, but was able to return. Obviously it's encouraging that he was able to play through his injuries, but Harvin clearly wasn't at full speed, and when asked if he went too far on his ankle, he responded by saying, "We'll see Monday." The Vikings play the Lions on Sunday before a Week 11 bye.

Jordy Nelson made it back from his hamstring injury, but was knocked out with an ankle injury in the first quarter. The Packers didn't update Nelson's status after Sunday's game, but the good news is that he didn't ever leave for the locker room, and has a Week 10 bye to get the ankle healed.

Also injuring an ankle: Antonio Brown. Brown initially sounded an alarm when he said that he had a high-ankle sprain, but fortunately he appears to have misdiagnosed himself, and it sounds like he's got a shot to play next week. Should he end up missing time, Emmanuel Sanders (2-20-1) would be worth an add.

Robert Griffin III needed X-rays on his ribs after Sunday's game. However, those X-rays came back negative, and RG3 has a bye next week. Speaking of the Washington bye, it's a big upcoming test for Pierre Garcon. If his injured foot doesn't improve, there's some concern that he could miss the rest of the season.

Other Injury Notes: Tony Romo strained his back on the last play of Sunday night's loss to the Falcons. He didn't sound too worried, but it's a situation to watch heading into Week 10 ... Stevie Johnson (3 rec, 29 yds) was limited after sustaining a thigh injury. His status is expected to be updated on Monday ...  Donnie Avery (5 rec, 108 yds) left with a hip injury ... Calvin Johnson said that his knee trouble is "something that I expect to linger," but Megatron had no trouble producing on Sunday (7 rec, 129 yds) ... Santana Moss (1 rec, 2 yds) left in the fourth quarter with a possible concussion ... Martellus Bennett 3 rec, 40 yds) was seen moving "very gingerly" after Sunday's game, though no injury had been announced as of Sunday night ... Andre Brown left with a shoulder injury ... The Packers lost Clay Matthews to a hamstring injury, and RT Bryan Bulaga to a hip injury ... Kendall Wright (elbow) is headed for an MRI on Monday ... In the latest word from a constantly changing timetable, Darren Sproles could be back as soon as next week ... Arian Foster played through the flu, posting a line that looked a lot like Arian Foster without the flu: 24 carries for 111 yards and a score.
