Week 17 Injury Questions

Saturday, December 29, 2012

The majority of fantasy leagues are over, but we’re not slowing down. There’s still Dynasty leagues, SnapDraft, playoff leagues and the never-ending thirst for NFL news.

As we get set for Week 17, we’ll still be scouring the league for nuggets and will post it on our relentless News Page. We’ve also got rankings from Chris Wesseling/Mike Clay here and a guide to what teams are playing for what this week here.

Here’s the link to SnapDraft if you want to draft a new team just for this week. And if you don’t have it already, you need the Rotoworld App for your iPhone/iPad. Badly.

OK, let’s get to the hurt folks:

1PM GAMES
JETS at BILLS
* Greg McElroy (concussion) is out. Mark Sanchez is back in the saddle and Tim Tebow will back him up.
* Dustin Keller hasn’t played since Week 13 due to his high-ankle sprain and will sit out the finale as well. Jeff Cumberland gets another start.
* Braylon Edwards (hamstring) is expected to play through a questionable tag.

RAVENS at BENGALS
* Anquan Boldin just has a shoulder bruise, but the Ravens don’t have much to play for. Avoid.
* Mike Nugent (calf) is out, leaving Josh Brown to kick again.

BROWNS at STEELERS
* Trent Richardson (ankle) is out. Improving Montario Hardesty gets the nod.
* Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy are out with shoulder injuries. That leaves Thaddeus Lewis as the starter.
* Mike Wallace (hip) sits out as he looks to free agency. Emmanuel Sanders will start opposite Antonio Brown.

TEXANS at COLTS
* Owen Daniels (hamstring) missed a little practice time this week, but he’s fine.
* The irregular heartbeat that sidelined Arian Foster last Sunday is no longer an issue.
* Donnie Avery (shoulder) is listed as questionable, but he’s unlikely to play because the Colts are locked into the No. 5 seed.
* Delone Carter (ankle) remains out.

JAGUARS at TITANS
* Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) and Rashad Jennings (concussion) are both out. It’s the Montell Owens show again.
* Chris Johnson (ankle) is expected to play despite a questionable tag. He was able to gut it out through the tweak last week.
* Kendall Wright (ribs) is expected back after missing just one week.

EAGLES at GIANTS
* Jeremy Maclin (knee) is fine despite his weekly injury drama.
* Ahmad Bradshaw (knee) is set to carry a full workload once again.
* Even if Hakeem Nicks (knee) suits up, he’ll be hard to trust. Nicks hasn’t topped 77 yards since Week 2 while playing at far less than 100 percent.

BEARS at LIONS
* Matt Forte (ankle) continues to show resiliency off repeated sprains. He’ll be a go in this must-win spot for the Bears.
* Brandon Pettigrew (ankle) won’t return, but Calvin Johnson (knee) was never in real doubt. He’s gunning for 2,000 yards.

BUCS at FALCONS
* There’s not much reason for Roddy White (knee) to gut it out with the Falcons locked into the No. 1 seed.

PANTHERS at SAINTS
* Jonathan Stewart had a setback and is not expected to play. DeAngelo Williams gets another start.
* With Pierre Thomas (knee) out, Darren Sproles will see all the passing work out of the Saints’ backfield.

4PM GAMES
CARDINALS at 49ERS
* The concussion Vernon Davis sustained last week was considered “minor,” but he hinted that he still wasn’t feeling 100 percent after Friday’s practice. He’ll likely go through some more testing Sunday morning before a decision is made.
* With Mario Manningham (knee) done for the year, Randy Moss is the Niners’ No. 2 wideout.

RAIDERS at CHARGERS
* Carson Palmer (ribs) is out. Extremely raw Terrelle Pryor gets the nod as the Raiders try to see what they have. Matt Leinart is the backup.
* Ronnie Brown (hamstring) is expected to be active as part of a timeshare with Jackie Battle.

CHIEFS at BRONCOS
* Tony Moeaki (head) could make his return, but is well off the fantasy radar with Brady Quinn starting.

PACKERS at VIKINGS
* Jordy Nelson (hamstring) makes his return, which means it will be easier for the Packers to rest Randall Cobb (game-time call, ankle).
* Alex Green (concussion) returns to share the load in a hot-hand situation with Ryan Grant.
* Adrian Peterson is dealing with soreness in his abdomen/groin, but it won’t limit him as the Vikings try to clinch a playoff berth.

DOLPHINS at PATRIOTS
* Brian Hartline (back) is good to go, but Davone Bess (back) is out.
* Rob Gronkowski is tentatively expected to be active in a limited role. He'll likely at least be involved in red-zone packages. Have a backup plan ready, but Gronk is worth a shot for most owners.
* As usual, Brandon Lloyd, Aaron Hernandez and Wes Welker are very likely to play full reps despite questionable listings.

RAMS at SEAHAWKS
* Steven Jackson (foot) will start in what could be his final game as a Ram.
* Sidney Rice (knee) appears to be over the hump with his various nicks.

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
COWBOYS at REDSKINS
* Robert Griffin III (knee) should be able to run with more ease this week.

MY TOUGHEST DECISION OF THE WEEK
None of my leagues play into Week 17. Therefore, the biggest decision I had to make this week was deciding whether to trade James Harden for Kyrie Irving and Marcin Gortat. Hoops, baby!

SURVIVOR PICK OF THE WEEK
If you’re still in Survivor, you don’t have many quality teams left. Some “bad” teams in good spots this week include the Chargers vs. the fighting Terrelle Pryors, the Titans at home vs. the fighting Chad Hennes and the Bucs in Atlanta against a Falcons team that figures to rest its starters in the second half.
