Editor's Note: Rotoworld's partner FanDuel is hosting a one-week $40,000 Fantasy Football league for Week 13. It's $25 to join and first prize is $6,000. Starts Sunday at 1pm ET. Here's the FanDuel link.
Welcome to Week 13! Below I have my team for the big $40k FanDuel Tournament. This was a tough one because I'm really seeing a lot of good plays this week, but you have to choose sometime and I did and here are my choices.
QB Tom Brady $8,900 NE@HOU
This week I’m getting aboard the New England Patriots offensive train after they’ve shown three weeks in a row that they are very much back in the business of moving the ball. The Texans on the other hand are a dumpster fire of the highest degree. Their pass defense still ranks fairly high, but just two weeks ago they gave up three touchdowns to Matt McGloin. They've also faced very few good passing offenses and their stats reflect that.
RB Shane Vereen $6,200 NE@HOU
Since returning two weeks ago Vereen has caught eight passes in both of his games. That’s four FanDuel points per game right there without the yardage that comes after. So far the bust out game hasn’t happened for Vereen, but his usage is intact with Steven Ridley and LeGarrette Blount getting the cold shoulder after fumbling. I expect Vereen to be a safe player this week, but also have a ton of upside. We haven’t seen his full potential since Week 1.
RB C.J. Spiller $5,700 ATL@BUF
I built this team for tournaments and that’s why Spiller is here. He may be in quite a few teams this weekend, but I just don’t trust him yet for 50/50s and head to head matchups. But for his price, ability, and matchup, his value could be off the charts. The Falcons are getting scorched by running backs this season and running backs with similar skills as Spiller. Andre Ellington totaled 162 yards and a touchdown, Bobby Rainey 165 yards and three touchdowns, and Pierre Thomas just went for 130 yards on 15 touches. Spiller has been banged up much of the season, but is coming off a bye and should be as healthy as he can be.
WR Steve Johnson $5,200 ATL@BUF
Much like Spiller, Johnson has been nursing injuries and needed the bye to get back on track. When healthy this season he has looked good as the most reliable receiver on a team with plenty of talented, but young receivers. The Falcons are giving up 183 yards per game to wide receivers, the eight worst and 14 receiving touchdowns, the fifth worst. They are especially poor against slot receivers, which is where Johnson makes his money.
WR Wes Welker $7,400 DEN@KC
The last time these two met Welker caught eight passes on Brandon Flowers. It’s been a whole three games without a touchdown for Welker and this week Kansas City will be without Justin Houston to get pressure on Manning. I see Welker getting into the end zone again.
WR Pierre Garcon $7,500 NYG@WAS
Garcon continues to be the #1 target for Robert Griffin even though they’ve hit a slump. He hasn’t had under five receptions all season and this week they get Jordan Reed back who should help give him some space to operate.
TE Rob Gronkowski $8,200 NE@HOU
With Jimmy Graham up in Seattle on Monday night Gronk is my number one tight end. His ability and connection with Tom Brady far outweigh any defensive statistics the Texans are sporting.
K Adam Vinatieri $5,000 TEN@IND
Vinatieri has hit a mini slump along with his team, but will be in the dome against a team he put up 15 FanDuel points on just two weeks ago. For 5k that’s a good deal.
D Cleveland Browns $5,800 JAC@CLE
They are expensive, but they'll be in the Dawg Pound in what looks like the coldest game of the day. Cecil Shorts will have trouble with Joe Haden and they haven’t allowed a 100 yard rusher all season. If they can get to Henne there could be plenty of points to be had, but even if they don’t I think they are a safe play in a low scoring game for the Jaguars.
