Week 16 Target Watch: AFC

Thursday, December 19, 2013

Welcome to the AFC targets and touches for Week 16 of the NFL season. The NFC portion can be found with a click of the clicky thing.

I have all the targets for each player since Week 11, and then in parentheses are the total and then average targets per game played for that player. Then below that I have the Red Zone targets and touches for each player, now sorted for rushing attempts and passing targets from Week 11 on.  I hope you enjoy and if you get a chance give a follow on Twitter.

Baltimore Ravens

Torrey Smith: 8-4-10-5-12 (39) (7.8), Jacoby Jones: 2-6-7-7-9 (31) (6.2), Ray Rice: 5-1-7-5-4 (22) (4.4), Marlon Brown: dnp-2-1-11-6 (20) (5), Ed Dickson: 3-5-2-5-3 (18) (3.6), Dennis Pitta: dnp-dnp-dnp-11-4 (15) (7.5), Dallas Clark: 4-4-2-dnp-dnp (10) (3.3), Tandon Doss: 5-1-0-0-0 (6) (1.2), Brandon Stokley: dnp-1-3-1-dnp (5) (1.7), Bernard Pierce: 0-0-3-2-0 (5) (1), Vonta Leach: 1-2-0-2-0 (5) (1), Deonte Thompson: 3-dnp-dnp-dnp-dnp (3) (3)

If ever a game was dominated by a kicker, this was the one. Justin Tucker hit a team record six field goals along with the game winner, a 61 yarder as time ran out. He was the only Raven to put any points on the board so you can guess how the other offensive players fared.

Torrey Smith saw 12 targets after just five last week in the snow, but only caught four of them for 69 yards. In a great matchup Joe Flacco was only able to throw for 222 yards on 38 pass attempts. He didn’t throw an interception or a touchdown of course. This game fits into his home/away splits for the season. In seven home games he is completing 61.8% of his passes and has 10 touchdowns to six interceptions for an 85.6 passer rating, but in his seven road games he is completing 56.6% of his passes with eight touchdowns to 11 interceptions and a 69.0 quarterback rating.

Red Zone Targets+Touches: Torrey Smith: Run 0/Tar 6, Ray Rice: Run 17/Tar 5, Marlon Brown: Run 0/Tar 3, Ed Dickson: Run 0/Tar 2, Jacoby Jones: Run 0/Tar 2, Dennis Pitta: Run 0/Tar 2, Dallas Clark: Run 0/Tar 2, Vonta Leach: Run 0/Tar 1, Bernard Pierce: Run 4/Tar 0

Buffalo Bills

Steve Johnson: dnp-BYE-8-11-3 (22) (7.3), Scott Chandler: 3-BYE-6-3-5 (17) (4.2), Fred Jackson: 2-BYE-4-7-2 (15) (3.8), Robert Woods: dnp-BYE-3-5-6 (14) (4.7), Marquise Goodwin: 9-BYE-4-0-0 (13) (3.2), T.J. Graham: 4-BYE-2-3-2 (11) (2.8), C.J. Spiller: 2-BYE-4-1-2 (9) (2.2), Chris Hogan: 4-BYE-0-1-0 (5) (1.2), Frank Summers: 1-BYE-1-dnp-3 (5) (1.7), Lee Smith: 2-BYE-0-1-0 (3) (0.8), Chris Gragg: 0-BYE-dnp-0-1 (1) (0.3)

Robert Woods was the target leader in this one with six, which he caught five of for 82 yards and a touchdown. E.J. Manuel was much better than last week completing 17-of-24 passes for 193 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while also running 10 times for 37 yards and another touchdown. He did hurt his knee in the process though and will miss this week’s game.

Red Zone Targets+Touches: Steve Johnson: Run 0/Tar 2, Robert Woods: Run 0/Tar 1, Frank Summers: Run 2/Tar 1, T.J. Graham: Run 0/Tar 1, C.J. Spiller: Run 3/Tar 0, Fred Jackson: Run 6/Tar 0, Tashard Choice: Run 1/Tar 0, EJ Manuel: Run 6/Tar 0

Cincinnati Bengals

A.J. Green: 5-BYE-7-8-18 (38) (9.5), Marvin Jones: 2-BYE-3-4-9 (18) (4.5), Jermaine Gresham: 6-BYE-2-5-5 (18) (4.5), Mohamed Sanu: 5-BYE-2-4-4 (15) (3.8), Giovani Bernard: 5-BYE-2-4-4 (15) (3.8), Tyler Eifert: 1-BYE-2-4-3 (10) (2.5), Andrew Hawkins: 2-BYE-3-2-1 (8) (2), Alex Smith: 1-BYE-0-1-0 (2) (0.5), BenJarvus Green-Ellis: 0-BYE-1-1-0 (2) (0.5)

A.J. Green caught eight passes for 93 yards, which isn’t bad, even for him, but the fact that he saw 18 targets makes it a little bad. The Steelers seem to have his number for the most part throughout his young career.

Since his four touchdown game Marvin Jones had hit the skids pretty hard with just eight receptions for 89 yards in the four games after, but in his last two he has nine receptions for 108 yards and two touchdowns on 13 targets.

Red Zone Targets+Touches: A.J. Green: Run 0/Tar 5, Mohamed Sanu: Run 0/Tar 3, Marvin Jones: Run 0/Tar 3, Jermaine Gresham: Run 0/Tar 1, Giovani Bernard: Run 10/Tar 1, Alex Smith: Run 0/Tar 1, Tyler Eifert: Run 0/Tar 1, Andy Dalton: Run 3/Tar 0, BenJarvus Green-Ellis: Run 12/Tar 0

Cleveland Browns

Josh Gordon: 15-17-15-10-10 (67) (13.4), Jordan Cameron: 7-10-7-9-6 (39) (7.8), Chris Ogbonnaya: 12-5-5-3-5 (30) (6), Greg Little: 6-7-4-4-7 (28) (5.6), Davone Bess: 6-8-5-4-3 (26) (5.2), Fozzy Whittaker: 5-5-1-7-2 (20) (4), Willis McGahee: 2-0-2-1-dnp (5) (1.2), Gary Barnidge: 1-0-0-2-1 (4) (0.8), Edwin Baker: dnp-dnp-dnp-dnp-4 (4) (4), MarQueis Gray: dnp-dnp-0-2-0 (2) (0.7)

Jason Campbell unfortunately reverted to Jason Campbell against the Bears as he completed 23-of-39 for 273 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Josh Gordon coming off the best three games for a receiver ever was thwarted by Campbell’s inaccuracy more than anything.  Thankfully for his fantasy owners he was able to catch a garbage-time touchdown and turn his team-high ten targets into three receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Red Zone Targets+Touches: Josh Gordon: Run 0/Tar 7, Jordan Cameron: Run 0/Tar 4, Greg Little: Run 0/Tar 4, Chris Ogbonnaya: Run 3/Tar 3, Fozzy Whittaker: Run 3/Tar 1, Davone Bess: Run 0/Tar 1, Armanti Edwards: Run 1/Tar 0, Edwin Baker: Run 2/Tar 0, MarQueis Gray: Run 1/Tar 0, Willis McGahee: Run 4/Tar 0

Denver Broncos

Demaryius Thomas: 13-9-6-10-5 (43) (8.6), Eric Decker: 6-4-12-12-5 (39) (7.8), Wes Welker: 10-8-5-10-dnp (33) (8.2), Knowshon Moreno: 1-1-5-7-6 (20) (4), Julius Thomas: 5-dnp-dnp-7-8 (20) (6.7), Montee Ball: 4-3-2-4-5 (18) (3.6), Jacob Tamme: 0-5-3-5-2 (15) (3), Andre Caldwell: 1-0-1-1-10 (13) (2.6), Joel Dreessen: 0-1-0-2-0 (3) (0.6), Virgil Green: 0-2-1-0-0 (3) (0.6), C.J. Anderson: 0-1-dnp-dnp-dnp (1) (0.5)

The loss of Wes Welker for this game was a huge boon to Andre Caldwell who led the team with 11 targets, six receptions, 59 yards and two touchdowns. After him the targets and yards were pretty spread out. Montee Ball and Knowshon Moreno both had five receptions.  Ball’s five receptions and 49 yards were both highs for him.

Red Zone Targets+Touches: Knowshon Moreno: Run 13/Tar 6, Eric Decker: Run 0/Tar 6, Demaryius Thomas: Run 0/Tar 6, Wes Welker: Run 0/Tar 4, Julius Thomas: Run 0/Tar 3, Andre Caldwell: Run 0/Tar 3, Montee Ball: Run 13/Tar 3, Joel Dreessen: Run 0/Tar 2, Jacob Tamme: Run 0/Tar 2, Virgil Green: Run 0/Tar 1

Houston Texans

Andre Johnson: 17-6-9-21-10 (63) (12.6), Garrett Graham: 13-9-11-14-dnp (47) (11.8), DeAndre Hopkins: 2-4-5-7-5 (23) (4.6), Ben Tate: 6-6-0-4-6 (22) (4.4), Keshawn Martin: 5-2-1-6-3 (17) (3.4), Ryan Griffin: dnp-2-0-3-6 (11) (2.8), Dennis Johnson: 0-2-2-1-2 (7) (1.4), DeVier Posey: 4-1-0-1-0 (6) (1.2), Greg Jones: 1-0-0-1-0 (2) (0.4), Deji Karim: 0-0-0-0-1 (1) (0.2), Lestar Jean: 0-0-dnp-dnp-1 (1) (0.3)

Case Keenum played about as poorly as he could, completing 18-of-34 for 168 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. Keenum had been able to give Andre Johnson enough targets to keep him flush with fantasy points, but not this week. Keenum’s inaccuracy coupled with some uncharacteristic drops left him with just four receptions for 18 yards.

Ryan Griffin, the backup to the backup tight end, had the best game of the receivers with six receptions on six targets for 62 yards.

Red Zone Targets+Touches: Andre Johnson: Run 0/Tar 7, Garrett Graham: Run 0/Tar 5, Ben Tate: Run 14/Tar 3, DeAndre Hopkins: Run 0/Tar 3, Keshawn Martin: Run 0/Tar 2, Greg Jones: Run 0/Tar 1, Dennis Johnson: Run 2/Tar 0, Case Keenum: Run 2/Tar 0

Indianapolis Colts

T.Y. Hilton: 9-9-7-5-12 (42) (8.4), Coby Fleener: 10-8-5-9-1 (33) (6.6), Trent Richardson: 5-2-0-6-6 (19) (3.8), LaVon Brazill: 1-5-8-4-dnp (18) (4.5), Darrius Heyward-Bey: 3-6-5-3-0 (17) (3.4), Da’Rick Rogers: dnp-dnp-0-9-6 (15) (5), Donald Brown: 1-2-3-6-0 (12) (2.4), Griff Whalen: 3-dnp-dnp-dnp-5 (8) (4), Weslye Saunders: 3-2-dnp-2-0 (7) (1.8), Stanley Havili: 1-dnp-4-0-dnp (5) (1.7), Jack Doyle: dnp-dnp-dnp-1-2 (3) (1.5), David Reed: 0-2-dnp-dnp-dnp (2) (1), Tashard Choice: 1-dnp-0-dnp-0 (1) (0.3), Justice Cunningham: dnp-1-dnp-dnp-dnp (1) (1)

After a pretty meaningful slump the Colts looked to get T.Y. Hilton back into a rhythm with 12 targets. It was somewhat successful as he caught eight passes for 78 yards, which was a pretty big chunk of Andrew Luck’s 180 total yards.

Trent Richardson had one of his best games as a Colt with 102 total yards and a touchdown on 23 touches. It wasn’t a dominant performance by any means, but it was a step forward from his abysmal play this year.

Red Zone Targets+Touches: T.Y. Hilton: Run 0/Tar 4, Darrius Heyward-Bey: Run 0/Tar 3, Donald Brown: Run 6/Tar 3, Coby Fleener: Run 0/Tar 2, Da’Rick Rogers: Run 0/Tar 2, Griff Whalen: Run 0/Tar 2, LaVon Brazill: Run 0/Tar 1, Jack Doyle: Run 0/Tar 1, Trent Richardson: Run 6/Tar 1, Chris Rainey: Run 0/Tar 1, Stanley Havili: Run 0/Tar 1, Andrew Luck: Run 1/Tar 0
