Injury Questions: Week 16

Friday, December 20, 2013

Welcome to Week 16 of the National Football League fantasy division. We don’t have many but with all of these injuries you never know when something wacky will pop up, so stay tuned to the Rotoworld News Page and also check out our live blog which I’ll be live blogging starting an hour before kickoff.

We also have Week 16 Rankings from Mr. Pat Daugherty and Sir Evan Silva's detailed look at every game in his Matchup Column. Both will help you make those last second playoff lineup decisions, so check them out.

Editor's Note: Rotoworld's partner FanDuel is hosting a one-week $300,000 Fantasy Football league for Week 16. It's $25 to join and first prize is $25,000. Starts Sunday at 1pm ET. Here's the FanDuel link.

1 PM GAMES

Dolphins at Bills

* Daniel Thomas (ankle) is listed as questionable. He aggravated his ankle-ligament injury in last week's win over the Patriots. It looks like he’ll be a game-time decision, but if he can’t go Lamar Miller gets a decent bump in value.

* E.J. Manuel (knee) has been ruled out for Week 16, and Thad Lewis will make the start against the Dolphins. Manuel sprained his left knee last Sunday against the Jaguars. He practiced on Wednesday, but there was too much swelling on the knee. It looks like he will most likely be back for Week 17.

* Stevie Johnson (personal) has been ruled out for this week. He is back home in California after his mother passed away last weekend. Robert Woods, T.J. Graham, and Marquise Goodwin will be the top three wide receivers for Buffalo.

* Coach Doug Marrone confirmed Fred Jackson (ribs) is expected to play against the Dolphins Sunday after being limited in Thursday's practice.

Saints at Panthers

* Jonathan Stewart (knee) is not expected to play until Week 17 at the earliest. DeAngelo Williams gets a bump this week.

* Steve Smith (finger) is listed as probable versus the Saints. He jammed his middle finger at the end of Wednesday's practice but will be fine to play.

* Greg Olsen (foot) is listed as probable and will play in a good matchup.

Vikings at Bengals

* Adrian Peterson (foot) returned to practice on a limited basis Friday and is listed as questionable.  He is expected to start against the Bengals after playing through several questionable listings over the course of the season. "As far as the foot goes, I'll be ready to roll," Peterson promised.

* Toby Gerhart (hamstring) was a full participant in Friday’s practice and is listed as probable. He will back up Adrian Peterson.

* John Carlson (concussion) is listed as doubtful.  He won't play against the Bengals and is considering retirement.

* Matt Asiata (ankle) is listed as questionable, but with both Gerhart and Peterson back he has no fantasy value.

* Cornerback Xavier Rhodes (ankle) has been ruled out for this week. A.J. Green should have plenty of room to roam in this one.

* Jermaine Gresham (abdomen) is listed as probable after practicing fully on Thursday and Friday and will continue to cancel Tyler Eifert out of fantasy consideration, as well as vice versa.

Broncos at Texans

* Wes Welker (concussion) is expected to miss the final two regular season games, but Broncos coach John Fox insists Welker is "feeling better every day." They hopefully are just being cautious with Welker to keep him healthy for the playoffs.

* Texans placed Ben Tate on injured reserve with a rib injury, ending his season.

Dennis Johnson will get a chance to start the last two games and prove himself for next season.

* Case Keenum (thumb) has been ruled out for this week. Matt Schaub will get the start.

* Garrett Graham (hamstring) is listed as questionable and will be a game-time decision after failing to practice each day this week. He went through the same routine last week, was listed as questionable, and didn't play against the Colts. We're expecting the Texans to start rookie Ryan Griffin at tight end this week.

* DeVier Posey suffered a high-ankle sprain in Houston's Week 15 loss to the Colts and will miss the rest of the season.

Titans at Jaguars

* Chris Johnson (knee) is listed as probable after participating in Thursday and Friday's practices and will start against the Jaguars.

* Maurice Jones-Drew (hamstring) practiced on a limited basis Friday and is listed as questionable. Despite the return to limited reps, Hays Carlyon of the Florida Times-Union expects Jordan Todman to start this week. Fantasy owners can keep Todman penciled in as an RB2/flex, but should check back Sunday morning for confirmation.

* Cecil Shorts (groin) underwent sports-hernia surgery Thursday and is out for the season. Mike Brown and Ace Sanders will see the most targets at wide receiver for the Jaguars.

* Marcedes Lewis (thigh) returned to a full practice on Friday and is listed as probable.

Colts at Chiefs

* Donald Brown (stinger) practiced in full Thursday and Friday and is listed as probable. He should get the start, but in a tough matchup with Trent Richardson taking away dome snaps.

* T.Y. Hilton (shoulder) was limited in Friday's practice and is listed as questionable. He admitted to reporters Friday that he's been playing through "quite a bit" of shoulder pain since falling hard on the arm in Indianapolis' late-November game against Arizona.

* LaVon Brazill (foot) practiced in full this week and is listed as probable.

* Anthony Fasano (concussion/knee) is listed as probable and will play this week.

* Dexter McCluster (ankle) is listed as probable and will play.

* Coach Andy Reid conceded Friday it would be "a stretch" for Justin Houston (elbow) to play against the Colts this week. His recovery is progressing slower than expected.

Cowboys at Redskins

* Terrance Williams (hamstring) is listed as questionable after getting a "limited" practice in on Friday. He will be a game time decision, but hasn’t had value since Miles Austin returned to the lineup.

* Dwayne Harris (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 16.

* Sean Lee is "hopeful" he'll be able to play in Week 17, but is out this week making Alfred Morris’ prospects better.

* Washington placed Jordan Reed on injured reserve with a concussion, ending his season.

* Darrel Young practiced on a limited basis on Friday and is listed as questionable. If he can go it helps Alfred Morris.

Browns at Jets

* Cornerback Joe Haden (hip pointer) will be a game-time decision against the Jets.

* Jordan Cameron (concussion) has been ruled out for this week. Cameron missed the entire week of practice after suffering a concussion last Sunday. Gary Barnidge and MarQueis Gray will handle tight-end duties for Cleveland.

* Willis McGahee (concussion) is listed as probable. His return makes Cleveland's backfield hands-off in fantasy playoff lineup decisions.

4 PM GAMES

Buccaneers at Rams

* Vincent Jackson (hamstring) practiced in full on Thursday and Friday and is listed as probable.

* Tavon Austin (ankle) missed practice for the third straight day Friday and is listed as questionable.

* Rams LCB Janoris Jenkins (groin) is listed as questionable after being limited n practice.

Cardinals at Seahawks

* Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) was limited in Friday's practice and is listed as questionable. Coach Bruce Arians clarified after Friday's workout that Fitz remains one concussion test from receiving full medical clearance to start at Seattle. We tentatively expect Fitzgerald to play, but it's not a lock in a game with a 4:05PM ET start. Keep checking back for updates.

* Carson Palmer (ankle) returned to limited practice Thursday and Friday and is listed as questionable. He will play.

* Michael Floyd (ankle) practice in full Thursday and Friday and is listed as probable. He will play.

* Rob Housler (groin) practiced again on Friday and is listed as questionable. It looks like he will be able to go.

Giants at Lions

* Victor Cruz underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Thursday, and is done for the season.

* Jerrel Jernigan (knee) is listed as and is shaping up as a game-time decision.

* Brandon Pettigrew (ankle) has been ruled out. Joseph Fauria gets a bump in value.

* Calvin Johnson (knee) is listed as questionable after practicing Friday and is fully expected to start against the Giants.

Patriots at Ravens

* Josh Boyce (ankle) is listed as out for Week 16.

* Aaron Dobson (foot) was limited in Patriots practice Friday and is listed as questionable but told reporters this week that he will likely play against Baltimore.

* Kenbrell Thompkins (hip) was limited in Friday's practice and is listed as questionable. His status for Sunday is up in the air.

* Joe Flacco (knee) is listed as questionable, but practiced in some fashion every day this week and will start Sunday's game against New England.

* Ray Rice (thigh) is practiced on Thursday and Friday and is listed as questionable. He will play.

Raiders at Chargers

* Darren McFadden (ankle) participated in Raiders practice Friday and is probable to play. He will serve as Rashad Jennings’ backup and change-of-pace back.

* Eddie Royal (toe) missed practice Friday, but is expected to play even though he is listed as questionable.

* Keenan Allen (shoulder) is listed as probable and was able to practice in full this week.

* Antonio Gates (hamstring) is listed as probable and will play.

* Ryan Mathews (foot) practiced in full Thursday and Friday and is a full go. Start him.

Steelers at Packers

* Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) has been formally ruled out for Week 16. Matt Flynn will start his fourth straight game.

* Eddie Lacy (ankle) returned to practice Friday. Just as he did last week, Lacy sat out Wednesday and Thursday before returning on Friday. He remains a top start in fantasy this week.

* Randall Cobb hasn't been activated from the I.R./designated for return list, but practiced on a limited basis throughout the week, but is not expected to play.

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Bears at Eagles

* Linebacker Lance Briggs (shoulder) returned to a full practice Friday and has been cleared by doctors to play at Philadelphia.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Falcons at 49ers

* Frank Gore (ankle, knee) remained limited in Friday's practice, but is in no danger of missing Monday night's game against the Falcons and should return to a full practice on Saturday.

* Mario Manningham (knee, illness) returned to 49ers practice Friday. Look for Manningham to be probable on Saturday's final injury report.

* Darius Johnson (high-ankle sprain) remained out of Falcons practice and won’t be active for Monday's game. Drew Davis should pick up Johnson's targets.
