FanDuel NFL Stacks: Week 5

Wednesday, October 4, 2017

Pairing or stacking a Quarterback and Wide Receiver is a fairly common daily fantasy football strategy. After all, if the duo connects on a long-gainer or touchdown, you’ll get credit for both the QB and WR on the other end. It seems pretty logical, yet it often goes underutilized by a portion of the daily fantasy population.

I’m going to list some of the obvious QB, WR, and (sometimes) TE combinations, then go in-depth with the GPP arrangements that could pay off in a large tournament setting.

Take note that we are examining the FanDuel MAIN Slate beginning on Sunday at 1:00 ET. This means no Thursday or Monday games will factor into this article.

Happy Stacking!

Obvious Stacks

QB Aaron Rodgers / WR Jordy Nelson / WR Randall Cobb

This is a nice spot for Rodgers and his receivers, stepping into the highest over/under of this slate against a Cowboys pass defense that has allowed productive fantasy outings to Trevor Siemian, Carson Palmer, and Jared Goff. You don’t need me to explain how Rodgers is in a different class than that trio … WR Davante Adams is questionable; if he doesn’t play, Randall Cobb would gain DFS viability.

QB Dak Prescott / WR Dez Bryant

Prescott is on the other side of this potential shootout vs Green Bay. Both quarterbacks in this game could feed each other’s fantasy upside with a brisk scoring pace … Dez Bryant hasn’t really been worth the cost this season, but a double-digit helping of targets in this high over/under seems like the time for a breakout.

QB Eli Manning / WR Odell Beckham Jr. / WR Sterling Shepard / TE Evan Engram

The fantasy results have been much better than the real-life results for Eli Manning this season. The Giants have seemingly abandoned the run, giving Eli a boost in volume and subsequent production … It’s tough to pay Odell Beckham’s premium salary given a subpar matchup on paper while playing through multiple injuries. However, he’s in the GPP conversation as a “target hog” in this pass-happy offense … Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram, and Brandon Marshall are all quality stacking extensions of Manning – ranked in order of preference.

QB Russell Wilson / WR Doug Baldwin / TE Jimmy Graham

Wilson is coming off back-to-back strong fantasy outings, which will likely inflate his ownership contingency this weekend. The matchup corresponds nicely against a Rams defense that allowed 584 yards and five passing touchdowns combined over the past two games (Hoyer & Prescott) … Doug Baldwin was quiet last Sunday, clearly slowed by a persisting groin injury. He’s a bounce-back candidate assuming his health improves throughout the week.

GPP Stacks

QB Jacoby Brissett $7000 / WR T.Y. Hilton $7300 / TE Jack Doyle $5100 (if playing)

Brissett unsurprisingly came back down to earth at Seattle, but hosting a suspect 49ers’ defense should tell a different story. His ever-present rushing ability doesn’t hurt either ... As far as pass-catchers go, T.Y. Hilton is offers the most upside. Like his quarterback, we aren’t worried about the lackluster performance in a tough matchup last Sunday. Brissett and Hilton were able to find the connection (9 targets, 7 receptions, 153 yards, TD) two weeks ago vs Cleveland, and a repeat performance is not out of the question … Jack Doyle would garner consideration if playing, but he’s currently in the concussion protocol … Donte Moncrief is cheap on FanDuel ($5100), but he doesn’t carry enough upside to gain my attention.

QB Andy Dalton $7100 / WR A.J. Green $8300

A pair of underwhelming performances to begin the season leaves Dalton with an economical salary despite racking up nearly 45 total fantasy points over the past two weeks. Facing Buffalo can be considered a neutral matchup on paper, which may yield a lower-than-deserved ownership rate for the Cincinnati passing game. While the Bills’ defense looked good last game at Atlanta, some of that can be attributed to top receivers Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu leaving early … Dalton and Green have clearly reestablished the connection to garner fantasy consideration, and that momentum could carry into this home meeting with Buffalo. Green will likely carry a strong DFS contingency, but stacking him with Dalton should be an underrated large-field tournament strategy.

QB Brian Hoyer $6500 / Pierre Garcon $6700 / Aldrick Robinson $4600 / Trent Taylor $4500

Hoyer was pretty bad at Arizona last Sunday, leaving some to question his status as San Francisco’s starting QB. Head coach Kyle Shanahan gave him a vote of confidence, and the veteran signal caller will have a prime opportunity to prove his worth against a disheveled Indianapolis defense (30th vs the pass). Don’t forget that Hoyer is only two weeks removed from a Thursday night 27 FP performance vs the Rams, so he certainly has the ability to post numbers … Pierre Garcon is easily the most noteworthy pass catcher on this team; however, he may get shadowed by CB Vontae Davis. If that’s the case, cheap receivers like Aldrick Robinson and Trent Taylor could see more looks. San Francisco WR Marquise Goodwin is highly questionable to suit up, so Robinson and Taylor would already be called upon more …  Keep an eye on any news regarding how the Colts will use their top corner (along with Goodwin’s status) to properly assess this situation. Garcon would obviously become a nice DFS option if he avoids the shadow.
