FanDuel NFL Stacks: Week 10

Thursday, November 9, 2017

Pairing or stacking a quarterback and wide receiver is a fairly common daily fantasy football strategy. After all, if the duo connects on a long-gainer or touchdown, you’ll get credit for both the QB and WR on the other end. It seems pretty logical, yet it often goes underutilized by a portion of the daily fantasy population.

I’m going to list some of the obvious QB, WR, and (sometimes) TE combinations, then go in-depth with the GPP arrangements that could pay off in a large tournament setting.

Take note that we are examining the FanDuel MAIN Slate beginning on Sunday at 1:00 ET. This means no Thursday or Monday games will factor into this article.

Happy Stacking!

Cash Stacks

QB Matthew Stafford / WR Golden Tate / WR Marvin Jones Jr

Stafford looked great on a Monday Night Showcase last week, infusing more confidence into his upcoming fantasy situation. Facing an unimposing Cleveland secondary at home doesn’t hurt either. Golden Tate makes for a reasonable stack, but his salary is pretty heavy at $7400 on FanDuel. I’d much rather go with Marvin Jones Jr ($6400), who has been stepping up with Tate playing through injury.

QB Dak Prescott / WR Dez Bryant / WR Terrance Williams

Dak checks in as a cash game option seemingly every week. I always add the following disclaimer in his write-up as well: You don’t necessarily have to pair Prescott with a wide receiver, as he loves to spread the ball around and his running ability manufactures fantasy points without the need of a pass catcher. Having said that, we need to monitor Dez Bryant’s status this week. If Bryant is out, I don’t mind Terrance Williams as a cheap pairing with Prescott.

QB Matt Ryan / WR Julio Jones / WR Mohamed Sanu

Matt Ryan has been very mediocre this season, but he’s stepping into a fantasy-friendly situation at Dallas on Sunday. This game represents the highest over/under of the weekend, and Dallas ranks 19th in DVOA against the pass. Julio Jones is still pretty expensive, and he’s playing through an ankle injury. Mohamed Sanu and Taylor Gabriel could step up if Jones misses this game (or is limited). Sanu is a plausible cash game acquisition regardless of Jones’ status.

GPP Stacks

QB Eli Manning ($6700) / WR Sterling Shepard ($5700) / TE Evan Engram ($7400)

It may be tough to click Manning into your lineups, but that’s not a bad tournament move with the anticipated low ownership rate. This is a nice bounce-back situation against a San Francisco team that ranks 27th in DVOA vs the pass. The Giants don’t have much of a running game, so Eli will look to take advantage through the air. Sterling Shepard makes a lot of sense for his price as the default top receiver on this offense. Evan Engram’s salary has been climbing, and the 49ers rank first overall in DVOA against the tight end position. Keeping that in mind, I’m leaning towards Shepard as the better “per dollar” pass catcher, as more targets may funnel his way.

QB Josh McCown ($7400) / WR Robby Anderson ($6500) / TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins ($6000)

Who would’ve guessed Josh McCown would be outperforming Matt Ryan heading into week 10? Sure, some of that highlights Ryan’s inconsistencies, but McCown has really stepped things up with 22, 25, 18, and 17 fantasy points respectively over the past four games. This Sunday’s matchup at Tampa Bay represents his best matchup of the season, as the Bucs rank 31st in DVOA vs the pass. Robbie Anderson has been enjoying success alongside McCown in recent weeks, and that should continue in this promising draw. Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been quiet in recent weeks, but this is a prime bounce-back opportunity.

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick ($6100) / WR DeSean Jackson ($6300) / TE Cameron Brate ($5700)

Jameis Winston and Mike Evans will both miss this game. That opens up plenty of value with Ryan Fitzpatrick and the remaining Tampa receivers. If you recall, the veteran quarterback stepped in for Jameis Winston earlier this season at Arizona, racking up 22.8 fantasy points despite that tricky road matchup. Clearly there’s some “Fitz-magic” still left in that arm. The matchup is pretty good as well, considering the Jets rank 21st in DVOA vs the pass. DeSean Jackson will step into a more prominent role with Mike Evans out, while Cameron Brate and Adam Humphries could clean up underneath.
