Rotoworld's Playoff Pool Draft
Monday, April 09, 2007
This past weekend, we at Rotoworld conducted our playoff pool draft. The ground rules were simple: ten teams, ten players, any position, in a straight points format. Almost every participant employed the same strategy, namely, hitching his wagon to no more than one or two teams in each conference and picking the best players available on each of those teams when his draft turn came up. Not surprisingly, not a single Islander player was chosen, as the Rotoworld clan seemed quite sure the Sabres would not fall to them in the first round. Let's take a look at the Rotoworld draft, round by round.
| Team 1 | Team 2 | Team 3 | Team 4 | Team 5 |
| Briere | Datsyuk | Vanek | Zetterberg | Heatley |
| D. Sedin | Lidstrom | Drury | Alfredsson | Spezza |
| H. Sedin | Bertuzzi | Pominville | Redden | Marleau |
| Connolly | Jagr | Naslund | Schneider | Fisher |
| Campbell | Shanahan | Iginla | Lang | Michalek |
| Zubrus | Straka | Tanguay | Holmstrom | Comrie |
| Salo | Richards | Hecht | Schaefer | Carle |
| Morrison | Prospal | Huselius | Corvo | Ehrhoff |
| Pyatt | Prucha | Numminen | Calder | Eaves |
| Bieksa | Kuba | Phaneuf | Priessing | Rivet |
| Team 6 | Team 7 | Team 8 | Team 9 | Team 10 |
| Forsberg | Selanne | Elias | Afinogenov | Hossa |
| Kariya | McDondald | Gomez | Thornton | Kovlachuk |
| Crosby | Sl. Kozlov | Gionta | Cheechoo | Tkachuk |
| Gonchar | Niedermayer | Rafalski | Roy | Gaborik |
| Malkin | Pronger | Modano | Guerin | Demitra |
| Timonnen | Nylander | Zubov | Langkow | Lecavalier |
| Arnott | Getzlaf | Morrow | Kotalik | St.Louis |
| Whitney | Avery | Ribeiro | Recchi | Boyle |
| Roberts | Kunitz | Boucher | Bernier | Rolston |
| Legwand | Penner | Nagy | Spacek | Zhitnik |
As you can see, Team One believes the Sabres and Canucks are destined to meet for the Stanley Cup. Team Two, on the other hand, has determined that the Red Wings and Rangers are the two squads to beat. If I were a betting man, I would place a buck or two on Team Four. We will follow this pool over the next seven weeks with interest.
