CHL Canadian junior players will face off against Russian juniors next week in the first game of the Subway Super Series.  The tournament begins on November 5th in Bainville-Boisbriand, QC.  The Russians will first play two games against members of the QMJHL, then they'll play two games in Ontario against the OHL and wrap up the series with two matches opposing the WHL in British Columbia.  Feel free to check out the rosters on the event’s website here: http://www.subwaysuperseries.ca/

A number of the players participating in the series continued their strong play in the CHL this past week, while others increased their 2013 NHL Entry Draft stock.  These players along with some other standouts from the past week are featured in this instalment of the CHL Report.

Jonathan Drouin (Halifax Mooseheads) - The 2013 draft eligible forward sat out six games with an upper-body injury, but his ailment hasn't slowed his torrid pace in the QMJHL this season.  He notched five goals and three assists in three games last week to take home the second star honor.  Drouin has a remarkable 23 points in 10 appearances this year.  He has formed a dangerous tandem with projected first-overall pick Nathan MacKinnon and is expected to go in the top-10 picks himself.  It should come as no surprise that he'll also be playing for the QMJHL in both games against Russia at the Super Series.

Xavier Ouellet (DET - Blainville-Boisbriand Armada) - The Detroit Red Wings prospect was the first star of the week in the QMJHL after he exploded offensively with eight points, including seven assists , in only three games.  He is second among all blueliners in league scoring with 18 points in 16 games this campaign.  The second-round pick of the Wings in 2011 was sensational last year with 21 goals and 60 points in 63 contests from the back end.  He will face the Russian team in both games for the QMJHL early next week.

Curtis Valk (Medicine Hat Tigers) - Valk, who is eligible for the 2013 draft, netted his 14th goal of the season in a 3-2 win over Moose Jaw on Sunday.  He moved into a second-place tie for the league lead with his 14th marker in just 17 games.  Valk is also fourth in the WHL with 25 points.  He had 24 tallies and 55 points in 67 contests last season, so he's clearly elevated his game and that should attract the notice of some NHL scouts.  The Tigers haven't had a problem producing offense this campaign, evidenced by their sitting second in the league with 65 goals for, but they have had trouble winning, with only an 8-8-1-0 record.

Michael St. Croix (NYR - Edmonton Oil Kings) - The fourth-round choice of the Rangers in the 2011 draft has gotten off to a strong start with 10 goals and 22 points in his first 15 contests.  He collected two goals and two assists in two matches last week in a pair of wins for the Oil Kings.  Edmonton has the best record in the Eastern Conference at 9-3-1-2.  St. Croix is set to appear in the Super Series against Team Russia in both games for the WHL.

Frank Corrado (VAN - Sudbury Wolves) - Corrado became the first defenseman this season to earn the OHL player of the week distinction for his efforts during the period ending October 28th.   He racked up one goal and six assists in only three games to earn the honor to give him 16 points in 16 matches this year.  Corrado was selected by Vancouver with the 150th overall pick in the  2011 NHL Entry Draft.  He will suit up for the OHL against Russia in the second game of the Super Series on November 12th, from Sarnia, Ontario.

Tyler Graovac (MIN - Ottawa 67's) - The Wild may have snagged themselves a great late bloomer with Graovac.  He registered a career high of 27 points in 50 games last season and is already close to eclipsing that mark a mere 14 games into the 2012-13 campaign with 20.  The seventh-round choice of Minnesota in the 2011 draft has a personal best of 14 goals, which leads the pack in the OHL.  The highlight of his week was when he tallied three goals and two assists in an 8-6 win over Kingston last Friday.   He will dress in both games against Russia in Super Series action from Ontario.
