An awkward matchFriday, March 01, 2013
Jiri Tlusty ranks high on the list of pleasant surprises so far in 2013. He dazzled on Thursday, scoring two goals and an assist in Carolina’s 4-1 win against Pittsburgh. That gives him nine goals and six assists for 15 points in 19 games this season, with a +11 rating and 50 SOG.
The shots are nice and his linemates are nicer; as long as he's getting regular shifts with Alexander Semin and Eric Staal, he should get plenty of chances to succeed.
Amazingly, he's only owned in 37 percent of Yahoo leagues, so you should probably get on that, lucky 63 percent.
Thursday was a nice night for good-to-great players making good-to-great returns from injuries. Gabriel Landeskog scored three points in his first game back. Jeff Skinner scored against the Penguins. Rick Nash really took the cake, though, scoring a goal and an assist while piling up a career-high 12 shots on goal.
OK, not every return was great. Kari Lehtonen allowed five Edmonton Oilers goals in the Dallas Star’s loss on Thursday. Still, merely seeing Lehtonen back should be a sight for sore eyes for Stars fans and Lehtonen owners alike.
INJURY NOTES (full list) and QUICK HITS
It wasn’t all good news, though. Corey Crawford suffered a reportedly unrelated upper-body injury on Thursday. Tough break (unless you own Ray Emery) … Congrats to Nazem Kadri on his hat trick. He now has an impressive 21 points. Kadri’s worth adding if he’s actually available in your league … Jamie Benn delivered a questionable cross-check last night. He’s already had a moment (not suspended) earlier this season … Anders Lindback isn’t the only Tampa Bay goalie who’s struggling, as Mathieu Garon had a tough evening against the Rangers … Matt Duchene also returned from an injury - albeit a less worrisome one - and had two points … Andrew Ladd kept it going with two goals. Seems like a good time to own a top Winnipeg Jets player … Sounds like Artem Anisimov could return against the Blackhawks Friday. Pretty amazing considering the scary fall he took.
