THE NEW OLD GUYS
Aside from Jussi Jokinen's mysterious injury or benching, Wednesday was quite the celebration for newly added Penguins.
Brenden Morrow was the headliner. Even his most basic stats (two goals and one assist) were fabulous, but he even scuffled with P.K. Subban for the Gordie Howe hat trick. (Really, he almost had a regular hat trick, too.)
While Morrow's numbers are inflated by a misleading 31.3 shooting percentage, he's historically been a high percentage guy (15.7 percent for his career) so things are looking up. Maybe I'd balk at adding him long-term, but he's an easy sell for the stretch run.
Morrow was the highlight, but Jarome Iginla and Brent Sutter also played very well.
Heck, even Douglas Murray scored a goal. You have to love when players buy in to a theme, right?
INJURIES (full list) AND QUICK HITS
Jeff Skinner is seeking opinions regarding a possible concussion. Seems about as obvious a drop as possible, as far as I can tell ... Ryan White's five-game suspension seems fair to me. It would be better if star players were held to the same standard, though ... Mike Smith is day-to-day with a lower-body issue. Tough contract year for him, but that might be a good thing for the Coyotes ... Speaking of contract years, Michael Ryder is day-to-day with a lower-body issue ... Patrick Sharp is a "maybe" for Friday. If you've held out this long, I guess you might as well just wait and see.
