LOS ANGELES 4, OTTAWA 3 (OT)
-- Dustin Brown clearly hasn’t lost his do-everything knack; he scored two goals, collected four PIM and six SOG yesterday. He did kind of slack on hits with "just" one, though.
-- Hopefully I’ve made it clear how strongly I feel about Jeff Carter. In case I didn’t, I feel very strongly about Carter’s regularly underrated value (2G, 1A last night).
-- He might be elite in fantasy, but Jonathan Quick will face his ups and downs in reality more than maybe some would like.
ST. LOUIS 3, CHICAGO 2
-- Normally, such a “Clash of the Titans” would garner more attention, but for the most part, you should know the score as far as fantasy-worthy players are concerned. Even so, a few bits:
-- Vladimir Tarasenko is a talented player, shown most obviously in his three points (2G, 1A) in the past two games. I'm not loving his TOI or SOG, however, which might help to explain last season's slump.
-- Again, I think Jaroslav Halak could have a really high ceiling this season.
-- A deeper “watch list” guy is Jaden Schwartz, and not just because of the Space Balls jokes. Not sure he’ll be worth it this year, but maybe in 2014-15 or a little later.
CALGARY 3, MONTREAL 2
-- It's super early, but the Flames might not just roll over and be the worst team in the NHL. Maybe?
-- Sean Monahan is an interesting consideration at this point. You've gotta love the 12 SOG and five points in four games. Calgary's lack of high-end options is a nice plus, too. Still, Wednesday represents the first game in which he receive decent reps (15:41 TOI), so I wonder if slippage is inevitable.
All that being said, the Tomas Hertl qualified suggestion applies to Monahan: if you really like him, just do it. While Hertl has great linemates, Monahan is a top offensive option already. So he could be worth it.
-- If your league is deep enough, Joey MacDonald is increasingly interesting. Just be ready to drop him pretty swiftly if needed, too.
