Ryan Johansen becoming a star

While I write about the top six power play leaders in ice time each week, there are some players who are very productive in limited time. Now some players like James Neal, Mark Giordano and Jeff Skinner would be on this list if they hadn’t been hurt, there are still a few who are doing quite well through the first third of the season.

The top ten are:


Derek Roy: 10 points in 55:23 minutes of power play time.

James Neal: 8 points in 42:51.

Dustin Penner: 8 points in 44:40.

Tomas Plekanec: 7 points in 50:51.

Nazem Kadri: 7 points in 55:59.

Mikhail Grabovski: 6 points in 40:55.

Fedor Tyutin: 6 points in 46:39.

Mark Giordano: 5 points in 30:37.

Patrik Elias: 5 points in 49:27.

Jeff Skinner: 5 points in 49:53.

Corey Perry:  4 points in 102:42 minutes of power play time.

Ryan Getzlaf: 9 points in 95:10.

Cam Fowler: 8 points in 93:33.

Nick Bonino: 8 points in 77:56.

Sami Vatanen: 2 points in 66:08.

Teemu Selanne: 2 points in 54:47.



The Ducks were 2-9 with the man-advantage this week and are 15-99 this season. Dustin Penner had both goals with Getzlaf assisting twice and Perry and Bonino also getting helpers.



Jarome Iginla: 2 points in 67:44 minutes of power play time.

David Krejci: 6 points in 67:25.

Zdeno Chara: 5 points in 66:53.

Torey Krug: 8 points in 65:39.

Milan Lucic: 5 points in 60:47.

Patrice Bergeron: 1 point in 51:15.


The Bruins were 2-12 this week and are now 13-73 this season. Reilly Smith and Lucic scored with Loui Eriksson, Carl Soderberg, Krug and Krejci drawing assists.



Christian Ehrhoff: 1 point in 91:38 minutes of power play time.

Cody Hodgson: 8 points in 86:33.

Tyler Ennis: 4 points in 85:50.

Matt Moulson: 12 points in 77:26.

Tyler Myers: 4 points in 62:42.

Jamie McBain: 2 points in 48:43.


The Sabres power play was 1-9 this week and are now 12-83 this season. Moulson scored and was set up by Myers and Ville Leino. It was Leino’s second straight power play point in two weeks.



Dennis Wideman: 2 points in 90:36.

Jiri Hudler: 6 points in 93:38.

Kris Russell: 3 points in 76:21.

Michael Cammalleri: 3 points in 61:54.

Sean Monahan: 4 points in 53:56.

Curtis Glencross: 2 points in 47:53.


The Flames were 0-6 and are 12-84 this season.  



Eric Staal: 5 points in 101:55 minutes of power play time.

Ryan Murphy: 3 points in 76:02.

Alexander Semin: 4 points in 75:33.

Nathan Gerbe: 5 points in 72:15.

Justin Faulk: 3 points in 71:37.

Jordan Staal: 1 point in 64:10.


The Hurricanes were 0-10 this week and are now 12-100 on the season.



Patrick Kane: 12 points in 93:50 minutes of power play time.

Patrick Sharp: 7 points in 92:56.

Jonathan Toews: 6 points in 90:04.

Duncan Keith: 7 points in 89:00.

Andrew Shaw: 5 points in 68:30.

Nick Leddy: 4 points in 57:48.


Chicago was 2-12 this week and are 18-90 this season. Kane scored twice with Keith assisting on both goals while Marian Hossa also assisted once.



Andre Benoit: 4 points in 64:29 minutes of power play time.

Ryan O'Reilly: 4 points in 63:12.

Erik Johnson: 2 points in 63:05.

P. A. Parenteau: 2 points in 62:01.

Matt Duchene: 4 points in 54:58.

Paul Stastny: 5 points in 54:43.


The Avs were 0-6 this week and are currently 13-72 this year.



James Wisniewski: 8 points in 81:51 minutes of power play time.

Ryan Johansen: 8 points in 72:30.

Cam Atkinson: 2 points in 72:04.

Jack Johnson: 2 points in 67:29.

R.J. Umberger: 6 points in 66:21.

Artem Anisimov: 2 points in 59:40.


The Blue Jackets were 5-13 this past week and are now 19-93. Johansen had two goals and two assists this week with Nick Foligno scoring once and adding a helper. Anisimov and Ryan Murray also found the back of the net with Wisniewski and Fedor Tyutin each assisting twice. Boone Jenner, Umberger and Matt Calvert each had one assist. Ryan Murray has taken over alongside Wisniewski on the first power play point, relegating Johnson to the second unit. Johansen is emerging as the star player that was predicted of him when he was drafted fourth overall in the 2010 Draft.



Jamie Benn: 3 points in 86:16 minutes of power play time.

Tyler Seguin: 4 points in 80:20.

Alex Chiasson: 3 points in 74:50.

Sergei Gonchar: 4 points in 72:13.

Alex Goligoski: 1 point in 63:12.

Rich Peverley: Zero points in 62:32.


The Stars were 0-8 this week and are now 9-86.



Henrik Zetterberg: 11 points in 87:45 minutes of power play time.

Niklas Kronwall: 10 points in 78:26.

Pavel Datsyuk: 7 points in 78:15.

Daniel Alfredsson: 6 points in 67:14.

Todd Bertuzzi: 3 points in 58:09.

Jakub Kindl: 5 points in 57:15.


Detroit was 1-7 this week and are now 19-89 this season. Kronwall had the goal with Johan Franzen and Zetterberg picking up the assists.
