Maple Leafs have a big week

The first week of the NHL season provided many surprises, not too many more so than the Devils power play which went 3-4 in just one game.


The Maple Leafs led the way with five power play goals on 10 opportunities and Mika Zibanejad of the Rangers had three of the four New York power play goals.


There’s plenty to read so let’s get to it.

Brandon Montour: 0 points in 6:14 minutes of power play time.

Cam Fowler: 0 points in 6:01.

Corey Perry:  0 points in 5:59.

Rickard Rakell: 0 points in 5:48.

Jakob Silfverberg: 0 points in 5:30.

Antoine Vermette: 0 points in 4:14.


The Ducks were 0-6 this week. They are missing Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, Sami Vatanen and Hampus Lindholm. That hurts the pp.



Clayton Keller: 0 points in 7:29 minutes of power play time.

Derek Stepan: 0 points in 7:04.

Max Domi: 1 point in 7:04.

Christian Dvorak: 1 point in 7:04.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson: 1 point in 7:01.

Anthony Duclair: 0 points in 3:54.


The Coyotes were 2-7 this week. Max Domi and Christian Fischer scored with Dvorak, Ekman-Larsson, Brendan Perlini and Alex Goligoski providing the assists. Expect to see Ekman-Larsson at the top of this list very shortly.



Ryan Spooner: 0 points in 5:50 minutes of power play time.

Brad Marchand:  0 points in 4:39.

David Pastrnak: 1 point in 4:25.

Charlie McAvoy: 1 point in 4:03.

David Krejci: 1 point in 3:33.

Riley Nash: 0 points in 3:00.


The Bruins were 1-5 this week as they only played once. Pastrnak picked up the goal with McAvoy and Krejci drawing the assists. Expect to see Torey Krug quarterback the power play as he will be back this week after missing the opening night with a jaw injury.



Kyle Okposo: 6 points in 10:44 minutes of power play time.

Ryan O’Reilly: 15 points in 10:36.

Jack Eichel: 8 points in 10:26.

Rasmus Ristolainen: 12 points in 9:50.

Sam Reinhart: 5 points in 9:40.

Evander Kane: 4 points in 7:35.


The Sabres were 1-9 this week. Jason Pominville scored the goal with Seth Griffith drawing the only helper.



T. J. Brodie: 1 point in 8:29 minutes of power play time.

Johnny Gaudreau: 2 points in 8:09.

Sean Monahan: 0 points in 8:09.

Kris Versteeg: 1 point in 7:33.

Micheal Ferland: 1 point in 6:15.

Matthew Tkachuk: 05 points in 5:11.


The Flames were 2-7 this week. Brodie and Ferland were the goal scorers while Gaudreau assisted on both. Versteeg and Mark Giordano also drew assists. Hard to believe but Dougie Hamilton is eighth in pp TOI while Giordano is ninth.



Teuvo Teravainen:  0 points in 5:23 minutes of power play time.

Justin Faulk: 0 points in 5:14.

Elias Lindholm: 0 points in 4:28.

Jordan Staal: 0 points in 4:28.

Jeff Skinner: 0 points in 4:04.

Sebastian Aho: 0 points in 3:23.


The Hurricanes were 1-5.  Derek Ryan scored with Justin William and Victor Rask setting him up.



Duncan Keith: 0 points in 8:21 minutes of power play time.

Jonathan Toews: 1 point in 7:12.

Patrick Sharp: 1 point in 6:43.

Brandon Saad: 1 point in 6:37.

Patrick Kane:  points in 6:25.

Richard Panik: 0 points in 5:39.


Chicago was 1-8 this week. Saad scored with Sharp and Toews getting the assists.



Tyson Barrie: 1 point in 11:10 minutes of power play time.

Sven Andrighetto: 0 points in 10:37.

Mikko Rantanen: 1 point in 10:37.

Gabriel Landeskog: 0 points in 10:04.

Nathan MacKinnon: 1 point in 9:24.

Erik Johnson: 0 points in 7:39.


The Avs were 1-11 this week. Rantanen scored the Avs goal with MacKinnon and Barrie assisting. Matt Duchene saw only 2:19 of power play time in the opener but had 5:16 against the Devils Saturday.



Alexander Wennberg: 1 point in 5:23 minutes of power play time.

Artemi Panarin: 1 point in 5:23.

Cam Atkinson: 0 points in 5:21.

Nick Foligno: 0 points in 3:23.

Zach Werenski: 1 point in 3:23.

Seth Jones:  0 points in 3:00.


The Blue Jackets were 1-4 this week. Werenski was the only goal scorer as Panarin and Wennberg picked up the assists.



Tyler Seguin: 1 point in 9:22 minutes of power play time.

Alexander Radulov: 1 point in 9:00.

John Klingberg: 2 points in 8:24.

Jamie Benn: 0 points in 7:42.

Devin Shore: 2 points in 5:45.

Mattias Janmark: 0 points in 5:07.


The Stars were 2-8 this week. Klingberg scored and added an assist while Seguin was the other goal scorer. Shore assisted on both goals with Radulov also picking up an assist. It’s a bit surprising to not see Jason Spezza on the list but he is next, only eight seconds behind Janmark.
