Waiver Wired: Nobody Boeser

Sunday, November 5, 2017

As expected, Evgenii Dadonov was scooped up in the majority of Yahoo leagues. He was sitting at 29% a week ago, but now he is owned in 55%. Josh Bailey jumped from an 18% ownership last week when he was featured on Waiver Wired to 58%. The Islanders winger is currently riding an eight-game point streak. Colin Miller’s scoring spree ended in November, but he went from being owned in 4% of Yahoo leagues to a 23% ownership.

Now, on to into this week’s offerings:

Brock Boeser (VAN) - RW - Owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues

Boeser had a big night Saturday against Pittsburgh with three goals, four points, seven shots and a plus-4 rating in a 4-2 victory for Vancouver. Even if you remove that extraordinary effort from the equation, Boeser is worthy of much more fantasy attention. The 20-year-old rookie has been held off the scoresheet in only three of his 10 appearances this campaign, while compiling a team-high 13 points. Boeser has also secured five power-play points, two game-winning goals and 34 shots on target.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (EDM) - C - Owned in 24% of Yahoo leagues

Nugent-Hopkins has been providing the Oilers with some much-needed secondary scoring lately. He has found the back of the net four times and he has added two assists over a four-game point streak going into Sunday’s outing against Detroit. Nugent-Hopkins leads Edmonton with six goals on 26 shots. His personal high 23.1 shooting percentage will regress eventually, but you can still take advantage of his hot start to the year. The Oilers have a busy schedule on tap with four games this coming week.

Pavel Buchnevich (NYR) - LW, RW - Owned in 23% of Yahoo leagues

Buchnevich registered four goals and two assists during a four-game point streak to close out October. His hot play helped elevate him to the top line alongside Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider after his talents were being wasted on the fourth unit. Buchnevich hasn’t earned a point in his last two games, but he has the ability to heat up again quickly.

Hampus Lindholm (ANA) - D - Owned in 23% of Yahoo leagues

Lindholm’s season debut was put on hold until Oct. 24 following off-season shoulder surgery. He has accounted for two goals, two assists, 11 hits, 12 blocks and 10 shots in seven appearances. Lindholm has averaged a team-leading 22:46 of ice time per match since his return. He has seen some power-play action as well and has contribute two of his points on the man advantage.

Boone Jenner (CBJ) - C, LW - Owned in 22% of Yahoo leagues

Jenner didn’t have a point in four straight games after he returned from a back injury, but now he has two goals and three helpers over a three-game point streak. Jenner has been averaging 19:22 of ice time per contest. He has also posted 19 hits over seven matches, which amounts to 2.7 body collisions per game. Columbus plays four times this coming week. If Jenner isn’t available then Oliver Bjorkstrand, who has nine points in 14 games and is owned in just 4% of Yahoo leagues, is worthy of your consideration as well.

Artem Anisimov (CHI) - C - Owned in 17% of Yahoo leagues

Anisimov has not been reunited with Patrick Kane at even strength, but they have been playing together on the power play and he has heated up offensively recently after a slow start. He has scored a goal in each of the last four games, which includes two on the man advantage, and he has added one assist during that stretch.

Tim Heed (SJS) - D - Owned in 10% of Yahoo leagues

Heed was an offensive stud from the back end in the minors last season with 14 goals and 56 points in 55 games. He made only one NHL appearance with San Jose in 2016-17, but he has played 11 straight matches with the team this season while Paul Martin has been on the sidelines. Heed has proven that he deserves to play regularly. He has two goals and seven points along with 24 shots. Heed’s 0.64 points per game has outpaced offensive dynamo Brent Burns, who has had a tough start, so far this year. They have been paired on the Sharks’ top power-play unit, where Heed has utilized his booming shot to register one goal and two helpers.

Jason Demers (ARI) - D - Owned in 6% of Yahoo leagues

Demers brings some value as a solid depth defender for fantasy teams. He has two goals, six assists, 13 penalty minutes, 30 shots, 19 hits and 20 blocks in 15 games. Demers currently has the same offensive totals as Oliver Ekman-Larsson without the baggage of a minus-12 rating. Demers has a much more manageable minus-3 rating and he has contribute across several other categories. Obviously, you should not be dropping OEL for Demers, but the latter could still make for an attractive addition.

Tanner Pearson (LAK) - LW - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Pearson has earned one goal and four assists in a three-game point streak. He has also posted 12 shots during that span. Pearson could finally be turning the corner after a sluggish start to the year. He is up to eight points through 14 matches and he is capable of much more. Pearson potted 24 goals and 44 points in 80 games in 2016-17.

William Karlsson (VGK) - C - Owned in 3% of Yahoo leagues

Karlsson has been a pleasant surprise for the Golden Knights. He has produced four goals and nine points in 13 outings this season after he had six markers and 25 points in 81 matches with Columbus last year. Karlsson has been playing between former Florida Panthers Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault as a top-six forward for Vegas. He has amassed all nine of his points in the last nine games.
