NHL Fades: Thursday

Thursday, November 9, 2017

As is the case with every NHL Fades, we are going to look at some players who you should think twice about placing in your lineup or who you should avoid using entirely. Remember to check back on this page later in the day for confirmations on starting goalies and keep an eye on Rotoworld’s daily blurbs for all your fantasy hockey needs.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UT).

Editor's Note: Rotoworld’s Season Pass is now available for the low price of $19.99. You get plenty of extra articles including the minor league report, the junior report and much, much more. Buy it now!

Jonathan Toews (CHI) – C - $6,800 FanDuel, $6,600 DraftKings

Toews kicked off the season with a five-game point streak, but he’s slowed down since then.  Over his last 10 games he has a goal and four points in 10 contests.  I don’t see him as a terrible bet, but on a busy night like this one, there are more appealing options out there at roughly the same price like Anze Kopitar and Sean Couturier, who have both been red hot.

Brandon Saad (CHI) – W - $6,200 FanDuel, $6,800 DraftKings

I’d lean against taking Saad in either league, but I think he’s a particularly bad pick in DraftKings tonight.  Saad’s reunion with the Blackhawks got off to an ideal start as he had a hat trick in their opener and recorded at least a point in each of the first four games of 2017-18.  He’s fallen off the map though with no goals and an assist over his last nine games.  Wait for signs of him heating up before taking him again.

Mark Giordano (CGY) – D - $5,700 FanDuel, $5,700 DraftKings

This hasn’t bene a particularly productive start for Giordano from an offensive perspective.  Through 15 games he has two goals and five points in 15 contests this season.  He hasn’t been too hot lately either as he has two points in his last nine games.

Mikael Granlund (MIN) – W - $6,700 FanDuel, $5,600 DraftKings

This is more of a recommendation to avoid on FanDuel than it is for DraftKings.  Granlund did find the back of the net on Monday, but so far, his production has been lukewarm as he has four points in eight contests.  I’m also a little hesitant about picking Minnesota players against Montreal tonight because Charlie Lindgren is starting for the Canadiens and he’s been great recently.

Oscar Klefbom (EDM) – D - $5,600 FanDuel, $5,500 DraftKings

Klefbom set career-highs in 2016-17 with 12 goals and 38 points in 82 contests, but he hasn’t been an offensive force so far this season.  Through 14 games he’s been limited to just a goal and three points.

Henrik Zetterberg (DET) – C - $6,200 FanDuel, $5,200 DraftKings

I don’t mind the gamble in DraftKings, but I wouldn’t select him in FanDuel at this time.  Zetterberg has just been too cold lately with no goals and two assists in his last eight games.

Corey Perry (ANA) – W - $6,200 FanDuel, $5,400 DraftKings

Perry disappointed last season with 19 goals and 53 points in 82 contests and while he was expected to bounce back in 2017-18, so far that hasn’t happened.  He has three goals and eight points through 15 games and has been held off the scoresheet in four of his last five contests.  He’s among the players I’d be interested in taking at a later date, but want to see heat up first.
