Waiver Wired: Zip to Zucker

Sunday, November 12, 2017

Brock Boeser went from a 29% ownership to 47% after he was featured in Waiver Wired a week ago. Pavel Buchnevich also experienced a meteoric rise when he climbed from 23% to 43%. William Karlsson has been a popular waiver addition lately (2,233 adds on Saturday), but he is still available in 91% of Yahoo leagues.

Let’s take a look at this week’s recommendations:

Jason Zucker (MIN) - LW, RW - Owned in 40% of Yahoo leagues

Zucker has been a popular addition of late after he netted six goals and added one assist during a four-game point streak. He was owned in just 20% of Yahoo leagues a couple of weeks ago. Zucker has been skating alongside Eric Staal and Nino Niederreiter, who has been productive since his return from injury.  He is up to 14 points in 16 matches this season.

Bo Horvat (VAN) - C - Owned in 40% of Yahoo leagues

Horvat was Vancouver’s best offensive player last season and he has had a strong start to the 2017-18 campaign. His six goals and 13 points through 17 games rank second on the team in both categories. Horvat also leads the Canucks with three power-play markers. Playing alongside a talented player like Brock Boeser should help improve his stats this year and he should be owned in more fantasy leagues.

Charlie Lindgren (MTL) - G - Owned in 35% of Yahoo leagues

The sample size for Lindgren in the NHL is small, but he has posted solid numbers. He has a mark of 6-1-0 with a 1.42 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage. That includes a 3-1-0 record with a 1.24 GAA and a .964 save percentage this season. Lindgren might be called upon to see more action with Carey Price nursing a lower-body injury and Al Montoya out indefinitely with a concussion. He has decent short-term value, but probably won’t see the crease much once Price is healthy.

David Perron (VGK) - LW, RW - Owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues

Perron has collected six points (one goal, five assists) during a four-game point streak. He currently leads the Golden Knights with 14 points in 16 contests, which is the best points per game pace of his career. Perron has been playing with James Neal for most of the year and they have combined to register 79 shots on goal.

Yanni Gourde (TBL) - C, RW - Owned in 24% of Yahoo leagues

Gourde displayed some promise last year when he produced eight points in 20 appearances and he has reached another gear in 2017-18. The 25-year-old forward has been skating alongside Brayden Point and Ondrej Palat on what has been a dependable second line for the Lightning. They have provided plenty of secondary scoring behind Tampa Bay’s dynamic duo of Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov. Gourde has accounted for four goals and 12 points in 17 games. He also has a plus-10 rating and 32 shots on target.

Joel Edmundson (STL) - D - Owned in 23% of Yahoo leagues

Edmundson already has a personal best five goals this season. He found the back of the net four times over 136 matches in his previous two campaigns. Edmundson appeared to find his scoring touch last year during the playoffs when he notched three goals and three assists in 11 outings. He has carried that offensive mindset over into 2017-18. Edmundson has also amassed 31 hits and 51 blocks, which ranks him second overall in the league, in 18 games.

Kyle Connor (WPG) - LW - Owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues

Connor has contributed four goals and eight points in 11 games since he was summoned from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose. He has also racked up 20 shots on goal and should have done enough to stay on the roster once Mathieu Perreault is ready to return from a knee injury. Connor has been placed in a great spot to succeed alongside Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler and he has not disappointed.

Alexander Kerfoot (COL) - C, RW - Owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues

Kerfoot signed with the Avalanche as a college free agent after New Jersey was unable to agree to terms with the prospect they selected 150th overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He made Colorado’s roster out of training camp and he’s emerged as a reliable source of offense. Kerfoot has tallied seven goals and six assists for 13 points in 16 games. He also has five points on the man advantage. Kerfoot has been hot recently as well with four goals and three helpers during a four-game point streak. The Avalanche were initially looking at J.T. Compher as their top option to be the second-line center after Matt Duchene was traded, but Kerfoot has looked good in that role between Sven Andrighetto and Nail Yakupov of late.

Micheal Ferland (CGY) - LW, RW - Owned in 4% of Yahoo leagues

Ferland has been riding shotgun with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan on Calgary’s top line. He has earned three goals and one assist during a three-game point streak. Ferland has posted seven of his eight points over the last eight contests. Gaudreau and Monahan are off to great starts and Ferland is benefiting from it right now, which makes him worthy of a short-term roster appearance.

Erik Haula (VGK) - C, LW - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Haula has taken advantage of his opportunity to play between James Neal and David Perron. He has registered three goals and three assists over a four-game point streak to give him nine points in 12 appearances this year. Haula’s scoring pace will likely slow eventually, but fantasy owners in deeper leagues may want to give him a look while he’s hot.
