Week of Jan. 14-20

Great Options

Tuukka Rask-Boston Bruins

Schedule: Mon vs. DAL, Wed vs. MTL, Thu at NYI, Sat at MTL

Rask has been one of the hottest goalies in the league over the last little while. He’ll likely make three starts next week and two of them could come against the Montreal Canadiens. Rask owns a 14-8-4 record with a 2.23 goals-against-average and a .920 save percentage this season.

Pekka Rinne-Nashville Predators

Schedule: Tue vs. VGK, Thu vs. ARZ, Sat vs. FLA

Rinne comes out of the break with a solid schedule. Not only are all three of Nashville’s games on home ice, they’ll also get favorable matchups against the Coyotes and Panthers. Expect Rinne to produce a good amount of fantasy points over the next seven days.

Frederik Andersen-Toronto Maple Leafs

Schedule: Tue vs. STL, Thu at PHI, Sat at OTT

Andersen went into the bye week having lost back-to-back games, but the break likely did him some good. He has a 22-13-2 record with a 2.69 goals-against-average and a .921 save percentage this season. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him start all three games next week.

Martin Jones-San Jose Sharks

Schedule: Mon at LAK, Tue at ARZ, Thu at COL, Sat vs. PIT

Jones comes into the weekend riding a three-game losing skid, but his workload will make him an intriguing fantasy option next week. Look for him to start three of his team’s four games. He has a 13-10-4 record with a 2.56 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage this season.

Editor’s Note: FanDuel’s main NHL contest, the NHL Breakaway, boasts thousands in cash prizes every night and costs less than $5 to enter.  Get in on the action!

Good Options

Henrik Lundqvist-New York Rangers

Schedule: Sun at PIT, Tue vs. PHI, Thu vs. BUF, Sat at COL

The Rangers have a really nice schedule this week, as they’ll play four games with a day off between each contest. Lundqvist has just two wins in his last six games, but both victories have come in his last three outings.

Jonathan Quick-Los Angeles Kings

Schedule: Mon vs. SJ, Thu vs. PIT, Fri at ANA

The Kings will play three games next week, but they’ll never have to leave California. It seems likely that Quick will be between the pipes for two of his team’s three contests. He has a 19-13-2 record with a 2.31 goals-against-average and a .926 save percentage this season. He’s coming off back-to-back losses to Calgary and Nashville.

Cory Schneider-New Jersey Devils

Schedule: Tue at NYI, Thu vs. WSH, Sat at PHI

Schneider comes into the weekend having dropped four in a row. He’s also given up four goals in each of those four contests, which is far from an encouraging sign. Fantasy owners will have to hope that the five-day break did him some good.

John Gibson-Anaheim Ducks

Schedule: Mon at COL, Wed vs. PIT, Fri vs. LAK

Gibson is 2-1-1 in his last four starts and he’s given up two goals or fewer in three of those games. His upcoming schedule won’t be easy, but there’s enough there to make him relevant in standard fantasy leagues.  He has a 13-13-5 record with a 2.65 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage this season.

Bad Options

Bye week problems: Obviously, there are plenty of goalies that would normally have fantasy value that are on bye. So players like Andrei Vasilevskiy, Sergei Bobrovsky, Braden Holtby, Connor Hellebuyck and Mike Smith aren’t on this list because they’re playing less games.

Marc-Andre Fleury-Vegas Golden Knights

Schedule: Tue at NSH, Thu at TB, Fri at FLA

The Golden Knights have impressed us all so far this season, but this could be a difficult week for them. They’ll face two of the best teams in the league (on the road) in Nashville and Tampa Bay before getting an easy matchup against Florida in a back-to-back situation. This could be the week to avoid Fleury in fantasy if you can.

Carey Price-Montreal Canadiens

Schedule: Mon vs. NYI, Wed at BOS, Fri at WSH, Sat vs. BOS

This is a crucial week for the Canadiens. If they falter over the next seven days, their season could be over. They’ll get three extremely difficult matchups against Boston (twice) and Washington. The home date against the Islanders won’t be easy either. Price has been good, but the team in front of him has left a lot to be desired.
