NHL Plays: Sunday

Sunday, March 11, 2018

The new game in town is called DRAFT (Draft.com) and the DFS game is something most poolies have grown up on, drafting a team, allowing each participant to take a player with each pick. Unlike the other DFS games, if for instance you draft Connor McDavid in your pool, no one else can take him.

The draft is quick as you are allowed only 30 seconds per pick and you take five players, three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

You can use some strategy. Let’s say there are five participants in your pool and you are picking last. If the first four take goaltenders, then pick your goalie in the final round as you are going to get him anyway.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Familiarize yourself with the rules and enjoy! It’s a great game! On Sunday there are head-to-head drafts with a lot of three player drafts as well. There is one afternoon game as well so be careful when you start.

Editor’s Note: Compete in a live snake draft right now! Drafts take as little as 2 minutes to complete and last just one night. For a limited time, DRAFT is giving Rotoworld readers a FREE entry into a real money draft and a Money-Back Guarantee up to $100! Here's the link.

 Forward rankings

1. Evgeni Malkin

2. Sidney Crosby

3. Johnny Gaudreau

4. Tyler Seguin

5. Brad Marchand

6. John Tavares

7. Mathew Barzal

8. Phil Kessel

9. David Pastrnak

10. Patrick Kane

11. Sean Monahan

12. Jamie Benn

Load up early on forwards especially if you are unable to get Khudobin in net. There are plenty of good ones as always and if you are able to combine two on the same line, that is a good way to clean up if the line is scoring.

Defenseman rankings

1. John Klingberg

2. Torey Krug

3. Dougie Hamilton

4. Nick Leddy

5. Oliver Ekman-Larsson

6. Kris Letang

There is not much separating the top-six picks so I would wait until the last round and be happy with who is left over. Krug has been red-hot of late and there is nothing wrong with Klingberg or Hamilton as well. In two or three team pools, you can wait until the last round before taking a blueliner.

Goalie Rankings

1. Anton Khudobin

2. Mike Smith

3. Antti Raanta

4. Casey DeSmith

5. Christopher Gibson

Check out the probable goalies on Rotoworld before starting your draft and especially the blurbs which should tell you the starting netminders. There aren’t a lot of great goalies Sunday so taking Khudobin early is a good idea. Smith is expected to return and faces the Islanders at home. Gibson, if he gets the start, has played very well in limited action for New York.

NHL Plays will look at some players to consider adding while building your lineups. Remember to check back on this page later in the day for confirmations on starting goalies and keep an eye on Rotoworld’s daily blurbs for all your fantasy hockey needs.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UT).

Antti Raanta G (Arizona) - $7,500 FanDuel, $8,200 DraftKings

Dougie Hamilton D (Calgary) - $5,600 FanDuel, $5,400 DraftKings

Jamie Oleksiak D (Pittsburgh) - $3,500 FanDuel, $2,900 DraftKings

Evgeni Malkin C (Pittsburgh) - $9,200 FanDuel, $7,500 DraftKings

Anders Lee W (New York Islanders) - $6,700 FanDuel, $5,800 DraftKings

Micheal Ferland W (Calgary) - 4,500 FanDuel, $4,900 DraftKings

Raanta returns to action after a three game absence due to a lower body injury. Hamilton has 15 goals this season and Oleksiak had a goal and an assist Wednesday against the Flyers and is a good gamble at his low, low price. Malkin has been the best point producer of late in the NHL.
