NHL Plays: Monday

Monday, March 12, 2018

The new game in town is called DRAFT (Draft.com)and the DFS game is something most poolies have grown up on, drafting a team, allowing each participant to take a player with each pick. Unlike the other DFS games, if for instance you draft Connor McDavid in your pool, no one else can take him.

The draft is quick as you are allowed only 30 seconds per pick and you take five players, three forwards, a defenseman and a goalie.

You can use some strategy. Let’s say there are five participants in your pool and you are picking last. If the first four take goaltenders, then pick your goalie in the final round as you are going to get him anyway.

Remember, there are new pools available to play in but the players in my rankings will fall off the table as soon as the puck drops in their respective game.

Familiarize yourself with the rules and enjoy! It’s a great game! On Monday there are head-to-head drafts with a lot of three player drafts as well as well as some six team pools.

Editor’s Note: With over 15,000 reviews, DRAFT is the highest rated fantasy sports app. For a limited time, DRAFT is giving Rotoworld readers a FREE entry into a real money draft and a Money-Back Guarantee up to $100! Here's the link.

Forward rankings

  1. Alex Ovechkin
  2. Claude Giroux
  3. Patrik Laine
  4. Anze Kopitar
  5. Blake Wheeler
  6. Jakub Voracek
  7. Ryan Spooner
  8. Aleksander Barkov
  9. Vladimir Tarasenko

10. Ryan Getzlaf

11. Rickard Rakell

12. Jonathan Marchessault

13. William Karlsson

14. Logan Couture

15. Jonathan Huberdeau

16. Paul Stastny

17. Evgeni Kuznetsov

18. Artemi Panarin

19. Joe Pavelski

Despite there being eight games, the list of forwards is not great. Ovechkin, Giroux and Laine are the best of the bunch with Ovechkin and Laine tied for the NHL goals lead with 40 apiece. Rakell has been hot of late and Spooner has been a revelation for the Rangers. Take your forwards, especially the top five, early.

Defenseman rankings

  1. Erik Karlsson
  2. Seth Jones
  3. Dustin Byfuglien
  4. Brent Burns
  5. Shayne Gostisbehere
  6. Alex Pietrangelo
  7. Zach Werenski
  8. John Carlson
  9. Drew Doughty

Karlsson has been hot of late while Burns has not been with only three assists in his last nine games. The Blue Jackets top pairing of Jones and Werenski has been hot of late. There are plenty of good blueliners so you can wait until the last round to take one.

Goalie Rankings

  1. Sergei Bobrovsky
  2. Roberto Luongo
  3. Connor Hellebuyck
  4. Marc-Andre Fleury
  5. Jonathan Quick
  6. John Gibson

Check out the probable goalies on Rotoworld before starting your draft and especially the blurbs which should tell you the starting netminders. I like Bobrovsky and Luongo because of the matchups.

NHL Plays will look at some players to consider adding while building your lineups. Remember to check back on this page later in the day for confirmations on starting goalies and keep an eye on Rotoworld’s daily blurbs for all your fantasy hockey needs.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UT).

Roberto Luongo G (Florida) - $8,500 FanDuel, $8,400 DraftKings

Seth Jones D (Columbus) - $6,000 FanDuel, $6,500 DraftKings

Zach Werenski D (Columbus) - $5,400 FanDuel, $5,400 DraftKings

Jeff Carter C (Los Angeles) - $6,500 FanDuel, $6,600 DraftKings

Paul Stastny C (Winnipeg) - $5,900 FanDuel, $6,000 DraftKings

Patrik Laine W (Winnipeg) - $8,100 FanDuel, $7,500 DraftKings

Ryan Spooner W (New York Islanders) - 5,300 FanDuel, $5,100 DraftKings

Tanner Pearson W (Los Angeles) - $4,400 FanDuel, $4,700 DraftKings

Luongo has been playing well of late. Pearson was on the top line in practice Sunday so he is a good price if he plays with Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown. Spooner is on fire as is Laine. I like the defense pairing of Jones and Werenski against Montreal.
